Kara had left an hour ago when my mother had gotten home. My mother had gotten accustomed to Kara's outgoing and childish personality though Kara was the only person she tolerated to act like that under her roof.

Though my mother tolerated it, Kara still had a small sense of uncomfortableness so many times as a result, Kara barely even spent a few hours here at my house. I wouldn't blame her though. I like to go to hers more than stay at my own.

"Elliana! The cake is done!" I hurriedly ran downstairs to the foyer where my mother was waiting for me with the cake. "Now remember what your father and I have always taught you- Stand straight, talk politely, and-"

I started to talk in unison with her.

"Never be rude."

"Good. You remember. Now please go, dear. We don't want them to think badly of us, do we?"

I shook my head and said,"No, mother." as my mother shooed me away again.

It was 6:14 at the moment and out of my peripheral vision, I could see the orange rays of the sunset.

As I got closer and closer to their door, my stomach started twisting.

But out of what?

Anticipation?

Dread?

Hatred?

There was a twenty-five percent chance of Colton answering the door and that's exactly what I didn't want. That's the one thing that I realized was making my stomach twist into these painful knots of a gut feeling.

When I got to the door, I hesitantly pressed my finger to the small little button that triggered the radiating sound of a bell.

Eleighna answered the door.

Eleighna was in the grade below me, a sophomore. She was apart of the popular crowd at school just like her infamous brother but she was the girl that girls used for her brother.

"Hi, how may I help you?" Eleighna greeted me.

"Yes, I'm Elliana from next door. My mother sent me over here. Are your parents home?" I had to be polite if I wanted to seem like that homey person that everybody seemed to love but some envied; just like my parents had always taught me to do.

"No. They left just a few minutes ago. You just missed them." She replied.

Make that a fifty percent chance. Damn it.

"Well, if you can, can you please just tell them my mother invited your family over for dinner tomorrow? Please?" I asked worriedly.

Colton can come down the stairs any minute.

Eleighna smiled warmly and spoke,"Of course. I'll tell them when they get back."

"Thank you. Well, I gotta go so thank you." I started to walk off before Eleighna called out for me.

"Elliana?" I turned around and looked at Eleighna, "Aren't you in my French class?"

I had thought back to French today before I remembered that I sat on the other side of the classroom from Eleighna.

It was surprising that she knew who I was.

I was normally quiet in all my classes so it astonished me at how she even noticed me, let alone remembered me.

"I think so, yeah." I nodded and smiled.

"See you on Monday!" Eleighna called as I started walking home. I motioned a small wave before entering my lawn leading to my house and into the comfort of my room.
