As soon as Colton heard the voices, he turned around and wrapped his arm around my waist while putting his other hand over my mouth as I let out a small gasp.
Once I calmed down despite the creaking of the wooden floorboards, I finally released a small breath.
"Elliana, Mason and I are going to talk to Brendan and Chloe. I know that sounds stupid, but if we don't, they're going to find you."
I just heard a gunshot and he expects me to let him go out there?
"You're a dumbass if you do it." I said barely coherently against his hand.
"You got spit on my hand."
"The hell does it matter? You kissed me already and if you hadn't noticed, there are two psycho's downstairs." Oh shit, I mentioned the kiss.
Kisses.
"Then I need you to hide under the bed and stay there." He said.
If there was one thing I knew was going to happen, it would be that Brendan would harm him one way or another.
And Mason? He would surely get harmed as well.
I was stubborn at the moment and stubbornness leads to crooked thinking.
"They're going to hurt you and Mason." I said, walking to the door and gripping the doorknob.
"And he won't hesitate to kill you." He faintly sighed. "Elliana?" I slightly turned towards him. "Please don't do this."
"Mason and I will be fine. Don't worry about us. Now, hide under the bed. They're going to search downstairs first." I reluctantly agreed, but hid under the bed, repeating his words to myself.
And he won't hesitate to kill you.
That in itself reminded me that despite my older brother not caring about my existence anymore and would rather have me dead than alive, Colton took the place of caring that Brendan used to have except that I also have affection for Colton whereas Brendan had brotherly respect.
I knew that though my brother had now just placed a bounty on my head and Colton as the bounty hunter, the old brother from six years ago was still making his way into my head.
"I'll always protect you, El."
"But Brendan, what if you're over there? Don't go, please brother?" I pouted, jutting out my lower lip.
"I'll be right there on that chair, El. I'll be watching you and I will protect you." He said.
"Promise?"
"I promise with all my heart."
That's the brother I remember perfectly clear. Not the one downstairs looking for any kind of information concerning me or my whereabouts.
That's when I started to hear yelling followed by crashing noises of glass.
Colton's POV
If I had stayed quiet with Elliana, they would have found my hiding spots.
No matter the place, Brendan will search everything.
He would have found the pocketknife and the semi-automatic under my mattress. He would have found the rifle in my closet. He would have probably found the items I was supposed to give him a month ago.
I found Mason in my room and motioned for him to get up and before we left my room, I made sure to grab the pistol I had under my mattress while Mason took the pocketknife.
