I stopped struggling against Mason and lowered my voice. "I thought she was adopted?"

"Oh, she was just signed over to her next legal guardians which are basically my dad and stepmom." He smirked. "This family - if you can even call it that - has so many secrets nobody even knows about." He grinned.

"Would you care to enlighten me anymore on this secret?"

He shook his head. "I don't really care."

"Well, can you?"

"There you go, Colton." They really are siblings. As much of a serious matter this is, I can't help but realize how much they both have the same level of being a smart aleck.

Asswipe.

"Go on. I don't have all day here."

"We do." Chloe said leaning against the countertop with her pistol still in hand. "And looking at the weather right now, you're not going anywhere." She smirked.

If Jace was here, he would probably be saying his stupid,"So, how's that weather?" Shit.

Dumbass.

And Mason?

If this situation wasn't so serious, he'd be playing in the rain right now.

Dumbass.

"Well let's see where to start?" Brendan said. "It's really simple actually. My dad and mom had met in college I guess you could say. It was their senior year of college, actually and here, they met at a frat party. Romantic, right?" Him and Cupcake even share the fucking sarcasm. What did he even get from the parent they didn't share? "That night is when I came along. Mom left and awhile later, mom comes to dad about me and nine months later, there I am. It wasn't even a year when they split. A few months go by when mom meets a new guy. She falls in love with him and all that shit." He rolled his eyes. "Three years go by, and there comes Elliana in all her pride and glory. Everybody loved her. Do you really think anybody paid any attention to me? Every little kid get's jealous over a new sibling. Of course, mom married the guy and he knew about me. I was switched between my parents. Dad had already met my stepmom. The lady that had raised Elliana and I as far as she knows. It was a few months before there was a wreck on the highway. There were three casualties. You probably know who two of them were and the third? Well, the third was a drunk driver whom decided to ram his truck into their small car. It was all accidental of course, but that doesn't bring her back. I was four and Elliana was only six, maybe seven months old." He chuckled again. "But before anything happened, my mom had decided to sign over the right to my dad and my stepmom in the case that something happened, along with her husband. And where was Elliana? She was with me and my supposed family. If you saw her as just a nerd, she was so much more than that. There's so much more going on that not even she knew about."

Mason started to speak. "Sorry to interrupt this little story, but tell me again how you know this being four years old?"

"How the hell do you think I know? When I got older, when I was around fourteen, my dad told me. I remembered bits and pieces from when I was a toddler but after that, my memory got a little freshened." That's when it started to make sense. Fourteen was around the age he started to neglect Elliana.

"Now, Colton. When I came here, I was going to trash your house to find useful information and lucky for you, you came downstairs on time. I didn't expect to tell a sad story. I wanted answers from you on why you've taken such an interest in Elliana. Now, give me the answers I want." I knew this was a demand and knowing Brendan, he's one of the guys that gets what he wants.

"It fascinated me how she wasn't like every other girl who basically carries around the look of cake and the stench of nail polish. It was a nice change." I said glancing at Chloe. "Everybody likes change, but maybe I liked this change a little too much."
