10: Merde

The next morning Belle could barely contain her curiosity. "So? How was your date Mama?"

"We had a wonderful time Belle! You should have stayed."

Mirabelle grinned, a little shot of jealousy coursing through her. "Next time."

"Davie is lovely. We sat together for quite a while and I told her about our family."

"You did?!" Belle examined her mother closely.

"Well not everything." Belle nodded and let out a little breath she didn't know she was holding.

Delia turned to face her daughter completely. "How is it for you Cher? Did you 'see' her? Anything?"

Mirabelle shook her head slowly, "No. I can't see her. It's different. A relief but also unsettling. I'm not sure if I 'like' it. I feel ... weird ... not myself."

"I thought that was what you wanted? To be without your gift, to be free."

"I know. I do. It's just new. And different."

"Hmmmmm. Well, you'll get to see how it feels more next Thursday."

"What?"

"You're driving her out to the house for Thanksgiving."

"What?!" Mirabelle grimaced "Mama, please, please don't meddle."

Delia feigned a look of shock and grinned. "Davie is coming for me! You're just getting her safely to the house!"

"Mama ..." Mirabelle shook her head. "Please."

Davie couldn't believe the impact her time with Delia had on the rest of her week. She felt anchored and she felt connected to Delia. She felt her loneliness slowly releasing her. Even her thoughts of Vineeta were less caustic and painful. The only downside to the evening was that she found herself wishing she had an excuse to return.

"Dr. Kaplan?"

Davie looked up to see Dr. McClendon in her doorway. She smiled and stood and nodding to the chair.

"Oh no! I can't stay, I just wanted to invite you to the house for Thanksgiving dinner next week. I'm sorry it's such short notice, Mary asked me to invite you weeks ago, I dropped the ball. Do you have plans?"

Davie didn't hesitate, the thought of missing out on the Fontaine family was one she could not even entertain. She mouthed carefully,"Oh, I'm sorry! I do have plans."

"Oh wonderful! I'm glad to hear that! You're settling in then?"

Davie nodded and grinned, "Getting there!"

"Text her Nell! What's the big deal?!"

Nell sighed, exasperated. "Jesse, she was pretty clear about her limitations and pretty wrecked, emotionally."

"But the sex right?!" Jesse's grin dominated her face.

Nell felt her entire body tighten at the memory and thought of Davie. "She fucking destroyed me. It was so good."

"Right! So what do you want Nell? 'Cause based on what you told me I think I might be willing to give girls a try."

"Well I don't want to be a total ass Jess! The woman was in pain."

Jesse rolled her eyes."Whatever, if you don't text her you'll never know."

"Well, fuck!" Nell opened up a text.
