29: Love Lives

For Mirabelle the meal was coming to an end far too quickly. She knew that Davis would soon need to leave for work and she would be that much closer to the longest four days of her life.

Davie looked across the table and sensed Belle's growing anxiety. "Okay?"

Belle could see concern in Davie's eyes. She sniffed and blinked trying to calm the storm of building emotions that seemed to come from nowhere.

Davie was surprised at the rise of emotion and the shift in Belle's demeanor. "Mirabelle? What is it?! Belle?"

Mirabelle saw herself unsettled and distraught. "I don't know Davis. I just feel so ... not myself. Just sitting here thinking about the distance and the time. When I look at you, sometimes every emotion I have rises and magnifies."

"Because I'm leaving? You're nervous?"

"No Davis, more like aroused and panicked. It's so wonderful and painful at the same time. It's so confusing and exciting, but I feel helpless." Mirabelle was stunned. Now tears threatened and she felt vulnerable and she never let anyone see her that way. "My heart, my mind, I'm completely undone. It just happened. I feel like I have some kind of disorder. I have no idea what to do."

Davie leaned in and kissed the soft skin behind Belle's ear. She focused and pushed Belle's name across her lips, letting the warm air from her mouth break over her ear.

Mirabelle gasped softly when the comforting images filled her mind. "Davis, thank you. It's so wonderful."

Davie kissed her again, sliding her arms around her she held her kissing her temple and sighing into Belle's hair. She sat with her until her tears stopped and her breathing regulated.

When Belle pulled away to see her, Davie smiled and kissed Belle softly on the lips. "Okay Belle? Better?"

Belle took a deep breath, filling her lungs and trying to reset. "Oui, better."

Davie contemplated for a moment, "It's getting worse isn't it? More intense? Will you let me help you too? We can work it out."

Belle's eyes washed with emotion and gratitude,"Davis, please. I don't know why."

"Okay. I have to get into work. Why don't you talk to your mom today? Stay close, I'm sure she can help you. You can text me any time. I'll answer." Davie grinned,"And if you get a call from a strange woman don't make her beg."

Charlie's eyes moved from the newspaper and his face split with a smile that reached deeply into his cool blue eyes.

"Belle! Hello Baby!"

Belle sighed seeing herself as a child. She moved to her father, kissing him on the forehead "Hi Daddy."

Delia's eyebrow raised and she motioned to the chair next to her. "Cafe Cher? Why the early morning visit? Is everything okay? Davie?"

"None for me Mama." Belle smirked,"I ate with Davis. Everything is 'okay.' Davis is fine. She actually shared some new memories with me."

"Oh! That's good then! Did she pass out?"

"No. But it was intense and painful."

Delia could see the anguish wash over Belle. "Oh Cher, I'm sorry." Delia moved and held Belle's hand, easing her pain.

"It's okay Mama, we're working through it."

"Then what is it Baby? Why are you so sad?" Charlie could read his daughter just as well as Delia.
