21: Let's Try

Mirabelle moved around the counter to face Davie. She stood just a few feet away leaning on the counter. She stared, dazed for a moment, looking at the woman. Davie was dressed comfortably in light cords and sweater over a t-shirt, she wore little to no makeup and her eyes were layered with thought.

"Davis, I am certain." Belle edged closer, breaking over the cusp of Davie's personal space. The proximity felt familiar and wonderful.

Davie's mouth moved purposefully and slowly. "Mirabelle, I don't want to hurt you."

Mirabelle stared at Belle's lips, she wanted them. "Then don't. Please. The thought of sharing you, it's not 'okay' with me. I'm sorry if that's too much." Davie didn't respond, she felt dizzied by Belle's words. Belle pressed through the silence. "Isn't it worth trying? Seeing? Isn't it worth the risk?"

Belle stepped fully into Davie's space, resting her hands on Davie's knees. She could see and feel Davie tense slightly and sit up a little straighter on the stool. Belle spoke with a layered intensity and conviction. "I don't want you just for sex. I can't do that with you."

Davie's mouth broke open slightly, her tongue pushed over her bottom lip reflexively.

Belle focused on her thoughts, determined not to be distracted by Davie's lips. "Please Davis, we can see if we can figure out things for you. Your confusion, your pain. Together."

Davie blinked, Belle's intuition in understanding her head space was unsettling. She was both dizzied and aroused. She grasped the edge of the counter afraid she might slip from the stool.

Belle spoke just above a whisper,"I won't share you Davis. I can wait, if you're not ready. But I won't share you." Belle moved slowly letting Davie see and feel her coming. She pressed in and kissed her softly letting her lips make contact and linger, just barely drawing her tongue over Davie's lips. Mirabelle sighed and stepped in even closer, moving her hands to Davie's hips. She repeated the kiss on Davie's temple. When she pulled back, Belle spoke softly, "I am certain. Let me show you."

Davie turned into Belle. The space between them heated and resonated with emotion. Davie stared into Belle's eyes, she felt their undeniable pull. "Mirabelle, you are special. Are you magic?"

A small smile played on Belle's lips, "No Cher, I'm just me."

Davie's eyes dilated and she bridged the gap again, kissing Belle slowly and softly. Mirabelle's eyes rolled with delight. She cradled her face gently and continued the connection for as long as Davie allowed. When the women finally broke, Belle's eyes shimmered with emotion and her voice was flooded with compassionate conviction.

"Is that a 'yes' Davis?" Belle chuckled lightly, surprising Davie, "'Cause I'm starving."

Davie grinned and sighed softly. "Yes, Mirabelle, you're right. You and I. I will focus on us." As soon as the words formed on her lips Davie felt relief. She felt more sure, comforted by the thought of anchoring to Belle.

"There you are! Francois and Love will be here any minute." Delia moved from the depths of the kitchen, embracing Davie and whispering in her ear. "I've missed you Cher! You look wonderful!"

"Thank you Delia. Missed you too." Davie felt an intense sense of comfort and wonder. She pulled back and inspected Delia's eyes, seeing magic there.

"I've been worried and Belle doesn't always share."
