25: You Will Suffer

Belle shifted to her side and shared the space with Davie. She pulled Davie into her arms and as completely as she could she blanketed the woman allowing her to rest her head in the crook of her neck. Belle murmured quietly into Davie's hair, occasionally kissing her forehead and pulling her fingers through the soft golden ribbons of hair.

"Davis, you spoke to me. I saw it." Davie nodded and shifted slightly sighing and kissing Belle's neck lightly, causing the woman to shiver in bliss. "We're special Davis ... together." Davie nodded again, she could not deny it. "I want to help you Davis... the sorrow ... I want to help you. Can you tell me about it?"

Davie's eyes burned, she kissed Belle's soft flesh again sucking and pulling gently she sighed. She felt a shot of guilt knowing that Belle would probably endure the same pain she did. A quiet sob rose.

"Don't cry, it will be okay." Mirabelle shifted back using her hand to draw Davie's chin up so she could see her eyes. She kissed the tears away.

Davie searched Belle's fluid eyes. Concern washed over her face, "Mirabelle, you will suffer too."

Mirabelle smiled reassuring the woman,"I will be okay. It will hurt more to see you suffer alone."

Davie considered, pulling her bottom lip in and dragging her teeth over it gently.

Belle smirked, "Jesus, Davie. You're killing me." She took the space away and kissed her tenderly with care and devotion. "Come on, let's shower and eat."
----

Within a few minutes they stood in a small shower facing each other and pushing water and soap over each other. Belle chuckled. "I used to think this shower was too small, but now I'm loving it."

Davie laughed, "Mmmm. Me too." Davie moved her hands over Belle's shoulders. "Belle?"

"Yes?"

"What did you mean 'not good' at school?"

"Oh that." Belle half grimaced and half smiled. She put her hands on Davie's waist rotating her into the water to begin working shampoo through her hair. "Well, I didn't really develop my sight until my teenage years. Puberty. That time of life is so chaotic anyway ... then every time someone spoke ..."

David turned looking over her shoulder,"Oh, I see." Davie's brow furrowed slightly. "So what did you do?"

"I just pulled back. I was severely antisocial at school, I missed a lot of days. I liked learning the material but you wouldn't believe how often teachers are thinking about something other than math or science. And the other kids, wow. It was hard. I didn't gain confidence with my 'sight' until later." Mirabelle sighed,"I barely graduated. If Mama and Papa hadn't opened the shop, who knows what I'd be doing? Probably working for Jules."

Davie rotated and pulled Belle to her. She kissed her lightly, smiling into her mouth. She moved back so Belle could see her lips,"I think you're brilliant."

Belle and Davie stood in the water until it began to cool. Enjoying the time and limited space. Disappointed to have to move from their moment but their hunger was a growing distraction.
----

Davie found herself sitting in the kitchen. This time in borrowed sweatpants and a long sleeve t-shirt she felt wonderfully comforted and relaxed. Belle was almost done. She pulled the mac-n-cheese from the oven and moved the components of the meal family-style to the table. "Wine?"

"Please."

Belle moved to the table bringing a couple of small plates and utensils, followed by the wine. "Are you hungry Davis?"
