41: Silence

Davis woke from a light sleep when she heard a door close in the house. She felt Belle pressed up against her and heard her unbroken, steady breathing. Davie rolled to her side, facing Belle in the intimate space. When her eyelids fluttered open revealing her remarkable eyes Davie smiled and cleared her throat.

Belle blinked, taking a moment to focus on Davis. She did not break the silence. It felt different now, alive with possibility. Instead she raised an eyebrow and formed a silent question with her lips. "Ready Davis?"

Davie chuckled and nodded. Before she spoke she lightly kissed Belle's lips and sighed with deep contentment. She whispered, her voice soft and layered. "Mirabelle, I love you." Davis grinned and laughed hearing her voice and watching Belle's reaction. It looked like she would burst with childlike joy.

"Mon Amor."

Davis's eyes widened at the love in Belle's voice and the shimmering magic in her eyes. She was so beautiful at that moment it was almost painful to look at her.

Davis gasped quietly and pulling her tongue over her lips. "Baby ..."

Belle's eyes rolled,"Davis, you're killing me." Mirabelle kissed Davie repetitively, giggling like a kid.

Davis responded to Mirabelle's touch, just barely holding on to reason,"Belle, your Mom's home. Should we?"

Belle stared not responding. She blinked fascinated by Davis's voice but also shocked.

Davis grinned,"Mirabelle? What Baby? Do you want me to sign?"

Mirabelle winced,"No. I love your voice. It's just that, I can't see you."

"What?!" Davis sat up holding the sheets around her. She couldn't help balking at the sound of her own voice, it was hers but still unfamiliar. She spoke just above a whisper. "Whoa. This is weird, unsettling. What? What do you mean? You can't see me."

Belle wracked her brain and shook her head. "No, haven't seen anything since before."

"Before what?"

Belle blinked and focused on Davis's eyes. It felt alien, she was so used to watching her lips. Mirabelle smiled at the memory. She thought of her father's vision too. "Since before you told me, that you love me." Belle paused and for a moment staring into space. Davie thought she might be worried or upset. She watched Mirabelle closely.

"Davis?"

Worry echoed in Davie's voice, "Yes, Baby?"

Slowly a smile broke across Mirabelle's face,"Say it again."

Davis spoke softly, clearly, and with complete devotion. "Mirabelle, I love you."

Belle gasped. "Nothing. Just your beautiful, incredible voice. It's wonderful." Belle grabbed Davis, who didn't have time to react or resist, she pulled her in and rolled over her hovering and laughing.

"Davis! Nothing! Just your voice!" Belle started feverishly kissing around Davie's face and neck. Everywhere but her mouth.

"More!" Belle was giddy and laughing. "Talk to me! Anything! Everything!"

Davis rolled with laughter. "I was born in Seattle ..."
----

Davis and Belle spent the rest of the afternoon uninterrupted, immersing themselves in the moment and the small space. They whispered and quietly talked about nothing of importance. Sharing little stories and observations. Belle's fascination with Davis's voice didn't wane but she managed to stop staring and gawking at every utterance.
