43: Balance
"Davie? How are you Dear? It's Patricia."
"I'm doing well Mrs. Reese, it's so good to hear from you. I'm excited to visit with you soon."
"Yes, Dear. It's been too long. I'll let you talk to Greg to make all the arrangements." Patricia laughed lightly but Davie heard tension in the sound,"I'm useless when it comes to planning travel! I just wanted to say hello. I look forward to seeing you again Davie."
"Thank you Mrs. Reese. I can't wait to see you and give you a hug."
Davis and Greg "talked" for some time getting caught up on family news and Patricia's medical condition. In its early phases Patricia seemed sometimes forgetful but most recently she went out to run a quick errand and did not return for hours. Davie only lightly referenced Seattle and focused mostly on New Orleans, it seemed to be more comfortable for Greg.
"Greg, I have a close friend here in New Orleans, I'd like to bring her with me on the trip. Is that okay? I don't want to overstep. I thought I might like someone to be there with me."
"Oh, sure Sweetie." Greg's voice wavered with sorrow. "I understand. We'll be happy to see you and meet your friend."
"Thank you so much. I can't wait to see you."

Davis sat at her desk, trying to push through the rest of her afternoon. Her eyes were beginning to cross from staring at lab results and quantifying data. She desperately needed a graduate group to keep the research up and running. She was startled when she heard Mirabelle's voice from the doorway.
"Hello Dr. Kaplan. May I come in?" Davis smiled, relieved to see Belle. She moved quickly to close the office door.
"Hey Baby." Davis pulled Belle into a kiss that left her both spinning with euphoria and centered her . "I'm so glad you came to see me."
"Wow, me too." Mirabelle grinned, "I had to decline an invitation from Dr. Wright. He invited us to dinner but that's not really what he was interested in."
Davis laughed,"I guess we might need to be a little more obvious. Around him."
"Um, I'm not sure that would help, Davis."
Davis pulled Mirabelle in grinning and kissing her a little more deeply.
Belle gasped for air when they broke, she voiced tinted with concern. "I've missed you Mon Amor. You've been working so hard lately."
Davis started kissing lightly around Belle's face and the soft skin of her neck. "Mmmm, I'm sorry. I've missed you too. But I have good news."
"What?" Belle turned into Davis's lips and now she kissed her too, continuing the conversation between tastes. "What is it?"
"I'm going to Philly to see the Reeses."
Belle paused in her pursuit and shifted slightly away so she could look into Davie's eyes. "That's wonderful. You'll be able to heal right?"
"I hope so. Will you come with me? I haven't purchased the tickets yet. We could do a little loop. Philly, Seattle, home."
"Anything. Anything Davis. I hate knowing you're in pain and unsettled." Belle cradled Davis's jaw. She pulled her in, kissing her slowly and deeply, she poured herself into the moment loving Davis as deeply as she could.
Davis moaned quietly, her work entirely forgotten; she kissed Mirabelle until she was breathless and panting, trying to hold the growing need to take her right there, at bay. "Mirabelle I love you." Davis's eyes rolled and her body begged.
