26: Rainer Season
"Good morning Cher! How was your dinner?" Delia was beaming and she could not contain her happiness.
"Good Mama. I had a good time ... she's ... well ... you know." Belle felt her stomach roll at the thought of the woman. "Amazing."
"Did she stay with you?"
"No. She didn't spend the night, but we definitely enjoyed the time we had together."
"Ah, I understand Belle. I'm happy for you, both, she feels the same way you do, oui?"
"I think so, it's complicated. There's so much going on with Davis that she wants to share but can't. This thing we've got going on. I think I'm in a little 'deeper' than Davis."
"'Davis'? What do you mean, exactly?"
Mirabelle smirked,"Oui. I like the way it sounds, 'Davis.' I think if she lets me call her by her full name, and I'm the only one, that it's special. And I tingle when she uses my full name." Belle grinned at her mother,"You only do that when you're pissed!"
"So, oui, I'm into her. Maybe a little more than she's feeling right now. Her plate seems very full."
"Mmm, so you're not quite on the same page."
"Right. And, I'm starting to 'see' her Mama. And she knows and she wants me to help her and I want to ... but."
"But what Cher?! You will help her Belle, right?!"
"Yes, absolutely, it's not that. It's just that I don't know how much of that situation impacts 'our' situation. If I was just another person, would I have a chance with her? Does she feel 'connected' to me only because of my sight?"
"Cher! That's that silliest thing I've ever heard! You are a Fontaine! You can't undo that. You can't be something you are not. So why waste the emotional energy? You must stop this Mirabelle. You are magnificent as you are." Delia stepped to Belle taking her hands and drawing her in. "So what if another person is more attracted to you because you have a remarkable quality? It's not something you have, like money, it's something you are. Can't you love yourself Mirabelle? As I love you? Your sight is not a handicap and only you are making it a burden."
Mirabelle sighed in frustration,"See, you're pissed. And, so what Mama? It's wrong for me to want Davis to want me for something other than my sight?"
"No Cher. It's not wrong for you to want her to love you for all the things that make you, you. It's wrong for you to think that your sight is your defining feature. Do you think that Davie is interested only in your gift? Really?"
"I don't know. I know that it's important to her right now. Maybe a little more important than my latest ice cream flavor."
"Okay, let's just assume for a moment that Davie wants to be around you only for your sight. Does that change things for you? Do you want to walk away?"
Belle cringed,"No. I don't think I could walk away."
Delia rolled her eyes. "Okay Cher, so why waste the emotional energy? When will you see her again?"
Belle shrugged and avoided eye contact. "I don't know, she told me she'd text. She's leaving Thursday to go back to Seattle."
"You are waiting for Davie to call you?" Delia laughed, "Well that is different."
