Davie listened to Belle breathing in an unbroken rhythm. She carefully slipped from the bed so she could shower. As she moved the water and soap over her body she noticed the pleasant ache in her muscles and subtle marks on her skin. Her thoughts of Mirabelle sleeping in her bed gave rise to an overwhelming sense of comfort and satisfaction.
Davie moved from the shower to the kitchen table. Having Belle close made it easier for her to begin a process where she mentally began to check down through her words and pull at her memories. It wasn't long before she heard the bathroom door close and the shower start up.
----
"Davis?"
Davie looked up and saw Belle moving toward her from the back of the house. She was dressed again in some borrowed sweats and a t-shirt throwing Davie into an intense moment of deja vu.
"Ummm, wow Belle you look good." Davie blushed, lightly caught up in a stare.
"Thank you." Belle stared at Davie's lips. She tingled all over and grinned enjoying the moment and look on Davie's face. "I'm starving."
Davie laughed, "Mmmm-Hmmm. Me too. Sit." Davie grimaced,"I'll do my best."
Belle sat at the kitchen table watching Davie scavenge for food. She chuckled lightly hearing Davie sigh and groan as she moved from the cupboards to the refrigerator to inventory food. Davie turned from the open refrigerator holding up an egg carton.
"Spinach and cheese omelette? And 'stuff?'"
"Perfect, anything, as long as I get to sit and watch you."
"Okay, but no laughing."
Mirabelle smirked and barely contained a chuckle. "Of course not Cher. I wouldn't think of it." It wasn't long before Davie and Belle sat together sharing an omelette, peanut butter and jelly, and a few odds and ends. Belle grinned, "So good! Best dinner ever!"
Davie rolled her eyes, sarcasm shining through in her response,"Mmm-Hmmm."
"Cher! It is good! Comforting. Thank you."
Davie typed on her phone as she ate. "So why do you think you're having such a strong response to me? You said 'intense' and your mom said 'strong.' What does that mean? Is it painful?"
Belle smirked in light embarrassment, "Davis, I'm so wrapped up in you right now. I'm not sure how to explain it. BUT even without my 'sensitivities' I think I'd be undone by you."
Davie stopped moving food to her mouth and she leaned closer to Belle drawn in by her words and the fluid shimmer in her eyes.
Belle smiled softly and continued,"I don't know. I'm so wonderfully confused by this, I want you and I don't think that's a bad thing. I'm just reactive and super sensitive right now. I feel like I have no control. That's really different for me."
"Hmmm." Davie nodded and reflected as she ate.
"Davis?" There was hesitation and muted pain in Belle's voice. "How do you feel about me?"
Davie sat up a little straighter, surprised by the directness of the question. She set her phone down and stilled her hands, forcing Belle to focus only on her mouth.
"Mirabelle, I think you are wonderful, magical, special. You know that right?"
Belle nodded but Davie could still see the hesitation in Mirabelle's eyes. Davie concentrated, trying to capture the words and emotions in a concrete way. Processing the language deliberately before her lips moved. "Mirabelle, your sight is not the only thing about you that is remarkable."
