You sighed as you grabbed a blood bag from your fridge. You felt your fangs elongate as the smell pushed you over the edge, hunger consuming you, and your animalistic instincts kicked in. You ripped open the bag and drained it before trashing it and walked to the bathroom to clean yourself up a little. You looked at yourself in the mirror and felt a wave of sadness rush over. You were tired of keeping it a secret from your friends but you also knew they wouldn't hesitate to bolt out the door the second you showed them. The sound of the doorbell pulled you out of your thoughts and you took one last look at yourself before walking out. You fiddled with your daylight ring as you walked over to the door. You looked through the peephole in the door and, to your surprise, Zak was standing there. You quickly opened the door. "Zak, what are you doing here? Are you okay?" He shoved his hands in his pocket and gave you a small smile. "Yeah, I'm fine. I was just wondering, um, could I come in?" You could see the slight tremor in his hands, even though they were deep inside his pockets, the slight twitch in his eyebrow, and the vein in his neck. You could smell his blood coursing through his body and you felt yourself get hungry, but you quickly bit your lip to distract yourself. "Yeah, come on in." You opened the door for him before quickly rushing off into the kitchen. You grabbed a glass and filled it with scotch before taking a sip. Being a vampire, you couldn't get drunk but the burning of the liquor down your throat helped keep the hunger away for a little while. You could hear Zak moving throughout the house and it took everything in your body to stay calm. You poured yourself another glass before walking into the living room, where Zak was staring at some of the pieces of artwork you had collected over the years. "So, what did you want to talk about?" He quickly turned around. He noticed the glass in your hand but didn't say anything as he took a seat in one of the chairs. You leaned against the wall and waited for him to speak. "Well, the guys and I were wondering if you were okay? You've seemed a little off the past couple of days and we just wanted to make sure you were okay." You raised an eyebrow. "So that's why the guys sent you by yourself?" He chuckled a little. "Truth be told, they think you're mad at them." "So they sent you to take the blows if I was mad?" "I never thought of it that way." He mumbled. You shook your head. "Well you can tell them I'm not mad at them. I've just been a little under the weather but I'm fine now. I appreciate you coming to check up on me." He looked up and gave you a smile. "Zak, can I tell you something?" He stood up and walked closer to you. "Yeah, of course. We're best friends, hell practically family, you can tell me anything." You took a deep breath. "What I'm about to tell you is something to hear with an open mind. Whatever happens, I want you to hear me out first and I want you to know that I would never do anything to hurt you. Okay?" He gave you a look. "(Y/N), are you okay?" You set your drink on the counter. "Zak, I'm a vampire." He didn't say anything. He just looked at you, I guess trying to see if you were joking or not, and you were looking at him, waiting for his reaction. "Prove it." Your eyes widened in shock; it definitely wasn't the reaction your were expecting. "Zak, I don't think that's a good idea." "You can't tell me something like that and expect me to believe it without seeing it for myself. Prove it." You sighed. You took a deep breath and the smell of his blood filled your senses. You felt your fangs poke your gums and when you looked up at Zak, his eyes had gone wide. "How did you do that?" You retracted your fangs and took a sip of your scotch. "I can't exactly explain how but it happens whenever I'm hungry or just pissed off." He sat down and you watched him carefully. "How old are you?" You chuckled. "Didn't your mother ever tell you it's rude to ask a woman her age?" He gave you a pointed look and you held your hands up in surrender. "Okay so let's see. I was bit in '75 so.... 342 years old." "Wait, what year were you... changed?" "1675." He shook his head. "I don't understand any of this." He mumbled. You slowly took a seat next to him, and when he didn't flinch or move away you took that as a good sign. "I was born in 1654 in a small village in the countryside of France. We weren't poor but we weren't rich either. My father was a blacksmith and my mother took care of me and my brother. On my 21st birthday, I was celebrating with my family when screams erupted throughout the village. We thought that we were under attack, so my father grabbed his sword and rushed out of the house while my brother pushed my mom and I under the table while he guarded the door. And just as fast as it occurred, the screaming stopped. The silence was so deafening and I could feel my mother shaking next to me. The door opened and a man walked into the house. He was covered in blood and I saw the smirk on his face when he saw my brother standing there. He said 'Boy, you don't stand a chance against me. So put the sword down and I'll make your death a quick one.' But my brother didn't put down the sword. The man, he moved so fast I didn't even see him attack my brother until he was lying on the floor in front of us, bleeding out. I put a hand over my mouth and prayed he wouldn't find us. But it did not work. He flipped the table and my mom pulled me into her arms. The man looked at me and I felt this warmth emanate throughout my body and I felt drawn to him. I was so repulsed by how I was feeling, I mean he killed my village. He pulled me away from my mother and threw me over his shoulder before running out of the house. He ran so inhumanly fast that everything was a blur and when he put me down, I threw up. He had taken me back to his castle, where he introduced himself as Matthew DeClairmont and told me we were soulmates. I didn't know what was going on but I knew I wanted out. When I tried to escape, he caught me and pulled me back but while I was fighting back, I slipped and my head hit the floor. I could feel blood start to trickle from my skull and the next thing I knew, he was biting into my neck. The pain was so bad I passed out, and when I came to I had this insatiable hunger. He taught me how to control it and how to protect myself. When I became strong enough, I killed him and I never looked back. I've been traveling around the world since then and here I am now." You looked over at him and you chuckled at his expression. "Wow. I'm just, speechless." You patted his knee before standing up. "Just promise you won't tell anybody, please." "Yeah of course not." You gave him a smile, which he returned. "I've got to admit though, that's pretty freaking awesome. I mean you can run faster than anybody else and you've lived for so long and seem so much. That's pretty cool." You gave him a sad smile. "Yeah, but it can be very lonely." He gave you a hug. "Um, I should get going." He said before walking towards the door. "I'll see you tomorrow, right?" He asked while opening the door. "Yeah, you will." He gave you one last smile before leaving.
