You and the guys were getting coffee before your investigation, which seemed to become your tradition ever since you joined the team. This time, however, you were extremely aware of literally everything that you did. You see, the last time you and the guys got coffee, you had the realization that you had developed feelings for Zak and that freaked you out a little. You shivered as you walked down the street towards a local coffee shop; it was freezing outside and you wanted nothing more than to get inside and have a warm cup of coffee in your hands. You were drawn out of your thoughts by something brushing your hand. You jumped a little and look up to see Zak holding the door for you. "Oh geez sorry, Zak. I got a little distracted there. Thank you so much." You gave him a smile and quickly rushed inside; the warmth inside the cozy coffee shop enveloped you and you couldn't help but sigh in content. "Hey (Y/N), why don't you grab a table and I'll get your coffee?" Aaron offered and you smiled. "Thanks, Aaron." You took off your jacket and scarf but left your beanie on and took a seat at a table near one of the windows and looked outside at the bare trees and the leaves that now littered the ground. "One plain coffee with two cream and one sugar packet." You looked up and saw Aaron place your cup down before plopping himself in the chair on your left while Nick took a seat across from you and Zak took the seat to your right. You felt yourself start to warm up as you took a sip of your coffee and you couldn't help but smile. You felt someone staring at you, so you turned to look and found Zak staring at you. "What? Do I have something on my face?" You asked while wiping your face with the back of your hand. He chuckled and shook his head. "No, I just think it's adorable how you find joy in a simple cup of coffee." You felt yourself blush a little. "Coffee is one of the many things that makes me happy." You replied and Nick chuckled a little. "Leave it to you (Y/N) to find joy in anything." You shrugged and took another sip of your coffee. "So tell me again why I'm working nerve tonight?" The guys looked around uncomfortably. "Hello? Anybody?" Zak cleared his throat. "Well according to the owner, women are more prone to attacks than men are so we want to decrease any risk of you getting hurt tonight." You scoffed. "Oh please, if the owner had told you men were more prone to attacks you wouldn't hesitate to send Aaron in there alone for the 'sake of evidence'." "Hey!" "Sorry, Aaron but you know I'm right on this. And besides, locking me up in a separate room isn't going to make a difference. I'm still in the building and it can more than likely still get to me. So what's the real reason?" Zak sighed and shook his head. "(Y/N), can you please just not fight with us on this one? We're doing this to keep you safe because some of the things we heard about this place is not something to be taken lightly." You looked around before sighing in defeat. "Fine, fine but you owe me a cup of coffee for this. You know I don't like being excluded from the investigation." You felt Zak's hand brush against your thigh and you flinched a little. "That's fair. Thank you for doing this." You stood up and put your jacket and scarf back on. "It's not like I really had a choice but you're welcome." You said before grabbing your coffee and walking out. Later that night, you were setting up nerve center. "What a load of crap." You mumbled as you unwrapped a cable and plugged it into the monitor. "I promise you it's not." You turned to the doorway and saw Zak standing there with a cup of coffee in his hand. "I know, I'm just a little upset but I'll get over it." You said before taking a sip and getting back to work. "Just don't do anything stupid tonight, alright?" You said without looking at Zak. "I promise." He said before grabbing a camera and walking out to start the investigation. You sat down in your chair and stared at the monitor, scanning the camera feed for anything and everything. You felt like you were being watched but you knew for a fact you were alone because you could clearly see the guys on the screen in front of you. You shook it off but then you heard shuffling come from the corner. You turned around and saw that some of the gear had shifted around. You slowly stood up and grabbed one of the recorders. "Is anybody in here?" You shivered as the atmosphere started to feel heavier. "Why are you here? Are you trapped?" Once again, you were met with silence but the air was super charged. "Give me a sign that you're here." It was then that you felt somebody grab your arm rather forcefully and you freaked out. You scrambled back and grabbed the walkie talkie off the table. "Guys! Guys, I need you guys to get to nerve right now." You looked around the room but it was empty and the air felt lighter. You jumped when the door opened and the guys ran into the room with Zak leading the way. "What happened?" You ran a hand through the room and sat down before rubbing your arm. "I was watching you guys on the screen but I heard someone walking around so I got up and asked a few questions when I swear I felt someone grab my arm." Your eyes went wide and you lifted the sleeve of your shirt to see a bruise in the shape of a handprint on your arm. The atmosphere was tense and you felt fear prickle your spine. "Aaron, Nick you guys stay here with (Y/N)." Zak said as he stood up and walked toward the door. "Where are you going?" Nick asked as he stood up. "Back to the main building. Just stay here." And with that, he walked out. Nick mumbled a few things as he sat back down while Aaron leaned back in his chair and stared at the screen. "There he is." You all looked at the screen and saw Zak standing by the stairs in the main building. "So you like to hurt women, huh? Coward! Show yourself!" You placed your head in your hands and sighed. "Oh my god, Zak. What the hell are you doing." You mumbled before looking back at the screen. "Come on! If you're as powerful as everyone says you are, attack me!" Nothing happened and you all sighed in relief when Zak called it a night. Aaron and Nick went back to the main building to help pack up while you cleaned up nerve. You were finishing up when Zak walked in and you felt your blood start to boil. "You doing okay?" You chuckled and ran a hand through your hair. "Not really. I was attacked and then after you promised not to do anything stupid, you tried to provoke a spirit for who even knows why and could have gotten seriously hurt! So no, I'm not doing too good." You huffed and watched as Zak's expression didn't change. "I did it because you were attacked, (Y/N). I would rather have that happen to me than you and you can say that's crap but it's the truth." You looked at him and felt yourself calm down. "I'm sorry. I didn't mean to get so worked up." He pulled you into a hug, which you gladly accepted, and felt butterflies erupt in your stomach. He pulled back and you tried to hide the blush that was now growing on your face. "I've been meaning to ask you this for a while but I was wondering if you wanted to get a drink sometime?" "Yeah, I'd like that a lot." You both stared at each other for a while before you heard shuffling outside. "Pay up man. I told you it was gonna happen." You heard Aaron whisper. "Alright, alright but I'm only paying ten because they didn't kiss." "What! Dude that's not-" You opened the door and saw them standing there, wallets in hand and guilty written all over their faces. "Dude, run!" Aaron said before sprinting towards the car followed by Nick. Zak chuckled as he walked over and wrapped his arm around your shoulder. "Did they seriously place bets on whether I'd ask you out or not?" You chuckled and leaned against him. "Yep." You both chuckled before turning around and walking back inside to clean up the rest of the gear.
