You hummed along to the song you were listening to as you read the article on your laptop. The ghost adventures crew was on their way to their next investigation in Ohio and you were doing some research on the location. You put your sweatshirt on and rearranged all your stuff on the table and groaned when the RV hit a bump in the road. "Damn bus." You grumbled and went back to work. You were so focused on the article that you didn't see your best friend, Dakota, take a seat across from you. "(Y/N)?" You looked up and pulled out one of your earbuds. "What's up?" "Just wanted to let you know we're an hour out." You smiled. "Okay. I'm just gonna finish up this article and I'll grab my stuff." He looked like he wanted to say something else. "Anything else?" He smiled. "No, just thinking." He said before tapping his hand on the table and getting up. You looked at him for a few more moments before finishing up your work. You put your laptop away and grabbed your luggage as the RV pulled into the hotel parking lot. You stretched your arms up and smiled. "This is gonna be a good investigation." You said. Dakota gave you a look. "Why do you say that?" You shrugged. "I don't know. Just a gut feeling. You picked your bag up again and walked into the hotel lobby, where Zach was already checking everyone in. "Are you sure there's nothing you can do?" You were confused by his words. "I'm so sorry, sir. But we don't have anymore open rooms." The lady behind the desk said. "Okay. Thanks." He walked over to the group. "What's wrong?" Aaron asked and Zach sighed. "There was a mix up and we are one room short. (Y/N), are you okay sharing a room with someone?" You smiled. "Yeah! It's not a big deal." "She can room with me." Dakota said and you blushed a bit. "Are you sure?" Billy asked. "Yeah. We're best friends. It's not like we haven't shared a room before." "Yeah, what he said." You added and Zach handed you the room key. As you and Dakota made your way to your room, you heard muffled laughter behind you. You turned and saw that all four of them were whispering and laughing. You glared at them and stuck your tongue out before continuing on. As you waited for the elevator, an awkward silence fell between you two. "Sooo... you ready for the investigation?" You said. Dakota shrugged but didn't say anything. You frowned and stepped into the elevator. The short ride felt like forever and you couldn't help but rush out of the elevator and to your room. You put the key in and opened it, just barely leaving it open for Dakota. You put your bag on your bed and grabbed your phone before walking to the door. "Where are you going?" Dakota called out. "Somewhere." You said, not even bothering to turn around. "Fuck." Dakota sighed and ran a hand through his hair.

You were helping Jay and Billy unload the equipment and they noticed you were upset. "Trouble in paradise?" Billy asked and you glared at him. "Hilarious." You muttered and put down some equipment. "(Y/N), what's wrong?" You sighed and sat down on the edge of the storage compartment. "Dakota is acting weird. He won't talk to me and when he does it's just one word responses." Jay sat down beside you. You wiped a tear away and sighed. "I'm sorry. This is just stupid." He wrapped an arm around your shoulders. "No, this isn't stupid. You're hurting and what you feel is not stupid." You rested your head on his shoulder. "Thanks, Jay." You looked up at Billy. "You too, Billy." He patted your back. "Anything for you, (Y/N)." You wiped your eyes again and stood up. "Alright. Let's get this done so I can eat." They chuckled and helped you with the equipment.

You were sitting at the edge of the hotel pool, your feet in the water and you were snacking on a bag of (Y/F/S). You were scrolling through the ghost adventures twitter account, when someone sat down beside you. "I'm sorry." You put your phone down and stared ahead. "I'm sure." Dakota sighed. "I didn't mean to come off as an asshole. I'm just... in a place and I don't know what to do." "You could have just talked to me; you know you can tell me anything. We've been best friends for years, Dakota." "I know... I know". He said before sighing. "What if... what if I didn't want to be friends anymore." Your heart stopped. "I would watch yourself, Dakota." You said coldly. His eyes widened and he looked at you. "That's not what I meant! I meant... I like you, (Y/N). And I want to be more than friends." His voice tapered at the end of his sentence. You looked at him. "Really?" He nodded. "You have some way of showing it." You said lightly and nudged his shoulder. "I like you too, Dakota." He smiled. "Really?" You chuckled. "Really." He grabbed your hand in his and the two of you sat in a comfortable silence. "Just promise that you'll talk to me whenever you've got something on your mind." He chuckled. "I will." "Good. Now let's go inside. We've got a long day tomorrow." You both stood up and walked back to your room, hand in hand.
