Shadow's Suffering

Chapter 10

"Mud! I can't leave you too. I'm starting to enjoy this. I've learned more than I ever would have with my family. I'm staying here. I'm happy. I wouldn't be happy if I didn't have you with me to make me smile with your stupid jokes." Shadow blurred out thankful her fur was dark because she felt her cheeks heating up as she said that.

She liked the male. He was fun company and she might have developed a crush on him. She wasn't sure about her complete feelings yet but she knew she couldn't leave him here with the others. They would tear him apart. She was surprised they hadn't already. He was the weak link. He was even weaker than Pebble and she was the runt. He was the harmonizer. He wanted peace between the clans and their pack. He hated all the fighting that there was between them.

"No, it's the best choice for you to run. Get far away from here. You will never be safe. Don't go to the clans. Don't go back to your family. Make sure we can't track you." Mud argued with her with a passion in his eyes. There was complete hurt hidden in the back but he wouldn't acknowledge it. He was hurt that he was forcing her to leave and save herself, but he knew it was for the best.

"I am not leaving! Get that through your think skull. I have to delivered those kits too. I'm pretty sure there will be quite a few. There is no way that all of them can survive along with Muddle if I'm not there. I'll make a decision after they are born. For now, it is my duty to stay here with you and your pack." She smiled taking a small step toward him and licking his cheek.

It took the male by surprise. He twitched slightly under her touch. She thought that he wanted to jump away but he purred in response. It just made Shadow even more flustered about him. He had to stop making her like him so much.

"You better make the decision to leave before you get hurt. I heard my dad talking about getting in a battle with another clan. BoneClan I think it's name was." He purred before pulling away a bit and nuzzling her cheek. "It's a clan. Are you sure you can do it?" He asked in a whisper.

"I don't know. It wasn't my birth clan but I have friends in that clan too. We are way too small to even take it out anyways. Muddle can't fight for a while so that leaves Night, Pebble, Brown, you, and me. They would have the leader, deputy, some warriors, apprentices, and a medicine cat at the least. That would be about twenty cats." Shadow said getting worried about the oncoming attack that was being planned by her leader. It was utter suicide. They wouldn't survive or be able to stay here.

"We will try. We are the best at that. I'll try and talk to my father about this. It will be a few moons before Muddle and her kits will be able to fight so maybe we shouldn't go and attack right now." Mud said quietly and nudged her again. Shadow just nodded having think.
