Shadow woke up early that morning and quickly said a bye to the two apprentices that she had shared the den with and went to find SmallClan. She knew the route well so she didn't need any warriors with her. She yawned and kept walking knowing she was going to have to run to make it back in time if she was going to be back by moon high that night.
It didn't take the dark grey female long to find the border and a border patrol to find her. Heatrumble was one of the warriors on the patrol and helped her to the camp.
"Are you staying with m- us?" The ginger tom asked quietly correcting himself as the two walked together. She blinked her eyes and shook her head.
"No, I am just coming to tell Junglestar that Night has agreed to letting us stay in the territory. We also need two warriors to come back with me for the kits." She said not looking at him all the way for she didn't want to make him hurt. She didn't know what he felt but she knew he could never be with her like they had said when they were apprentices.
"Oh... I wish you would stay. You would have made a good warrior. I'm sure the pack likes you staying with you. Mud seemed to like you." The tom scuffed at the name of the dark brown tom. Shadow giggled and nudged her friend.
"Is that jealousy I hear in your voice? Is the almighty Heatrumble jealous of a rouge because his best friend is in love with him?" Shadow teased him knowing how to make her friend laugh. It didn't work this time like it used to work when she hung out with other apprentices.
"Just what I thought. I saw it when you talked about him and I see it in his eyes. You two were meant to be together. Here I was thinking that you would become a warrior again so you can be with me!" Heatrumble hissed at the female with tears in his eyes. Shadow stopped for a moment and nudged the tom softly.
"Hey, the almighty Heatrumble doesn't cry. I'm sorry. I didn't know I would be exiled and I didn't know I would fall in love with a rouge but I really love him. If you were any kind of decent friend, you would be happy I found someone like I would be for you." Shadow said before looking at the ground somewhat hurt.
She never knew how much the tom actually cared about her. They had always joked about being together but were never serious. They had just been friends and that's it. She didn't think those joking feelings where real.
"Forget it Shadow. Once this threat is over I'll never see you again and that's okay. I'll move on one of these days." He mumbled looking away from her. The rest of the time the two old friends walked in silence for they were both upset with each other and themselves.
