Shadow's Suffering

Chapter 13

Below in the small pool that held the past in its reflection, there was something that shocked Shadow even more than knowing her sister was part of all of this. She wasn't sure what else it would hold. From what Sunwish said, this was only the first of the three deaths she was suppose to see.

It was dark at night but it was easy to make the cat out. She had a light brown pelt but her eyes were not seen. She weaved in and out of the trees looking like she had mud on part of her. Her tail was low to the ground but would not touch as she walked.

Farther in the distance another cat could be seen. She was easily bigger than the first one with light brown fur. This one had a white and grey pelt on her. Her eyes were light amber. It was easy to tell by any cat that had seen the warriors of SmallClan that she was the deputy and mate of Junglestar, Sunwish.

"Eaglepaw, I haven't found anything. Are you sure it was-" the plump deputy was never able to finish her sentence as the smaller apprentice launched herself at her. 

Though the apprentice was smaller than the leader's mate, the smaller and younger female had speed on her side for this. She also had the advantage with surprise. Eaglepaw quickly swatted at the other female trying to find her. Sunwish could not get her balance back and kept falling back trying not to get involved and hurt the apprentice. Eaglepaw kept swiping before finally getting her claws across the other female's face striking her in the eyes.

Sunwish finally started to swipe but since her eyes were blinded she was just swiping at the air not able to hit her mark. She came close to hitting Eaglepaw a few times, but the younger feline would just jump away and then jump back at her to get the other unbalanced again.

"You don't really want to kill me Eaglepaw! I'm pregnant with your cousins! I'm you're mentor as well! Come on Eaglepaw! You won't get anything from killing me. You will just get banished. You don't want that. You are a great fighter, but there are better. There are better in our own clan! Listen to me young me. Killing me and being banished is not the way to go." Sunwish tried to reason with the young apprentice but she would not have it.

"It means the clan will not starve to take care of you and your stupid kits that we don't need. It is better than me ripping your stomach open and killing them. You might tell on my then. This way, I know you are dead along with them. You are too weak to be the deputy. You can't even defeat your own apprentice!" Eaglepaw hissed before scratching once more at the female's throat. Her claws hit and they hit deep. Eaglepaw pushed her claws out of the throat of the deputy and let her bleed to death on the ground.
