Shadow woke back up and didn't feel Mud next to her. She was already starting to freak out. Did he go out to hunt? Was he taken? She scented the air and didn't scent Eagle's scent. She sighed in relief but was not sure yet. She could have disguised her scent with mud or something. The dark grey she cat got up quickly and checked to make sure she wasn't on kit duty. She saw Muddle and Pebble still in the nursery so she took that as a no and quickly headed out. This could be what happened to Brown. He went to go for a walk and never came back. Shadow thought.

The she cat slipped through the entrance of the camp going out into the forest. She looked around slowly. The snow was starting to melt but she did see some pawsteps in it. That was good. She could use those to track him instead of scent. She followed after the pawsteps quickly not wanting the sun to melt them away. If they were the melt she had nothing to track him by then. His scent was faint and too mixed with the scent of fresh snow to find it.

"You should never have been alive in the first place. I was sure I had killed you. If it wasn't for you, my sister would be back with me and we could live in peace!" A loud hiss came from in front of Shadow. Her ears perked up as she realized who that was. That was her sister, no doubt about it.

"I am not letting you get anywhere close to my mate. She doesn't care about you anymore! She wants to kill you. Are you too blind to see that as a sign maybe you should be trying to get her back?" Another voice hissed. Shadow realized it was Mud.

"Just did you filthy rouge!" Eagle hissed loudly.

"Mud!" A smaller and weaker voice called out from beside Shadow.

She hadn't even realized that Smokey had been following her. The tiny dark grey shecat ran toward her older brother before Shadow could grab the kit. She saw Eagle twist her head toward the tiny kit and snarled.

"Is this your kit? She looks pathetic." Eagle snarled raising her paw to attack Mud.

"That is my sister!" Mud growled taking stance to attack. Smokey whimpered not moving from her spot. Shadow was too far back to drag the kit back without being spotted.

Eagle swiped her claw to attack Mud but Smokey jumped in front of the claws. The young kit was easily thrown against a tree and fell against it. Shadow's eyes widened and she ran through the bushes toward the small little kit. Her breathing was shallow but if she could get the kit away quickly she could save her. She now had to choose between Smokey or seeing Mud die in front of her. She knew Mud was going to die, but she could maybe even treat his wounds.

"Run Shadow." Mud whispered to her.
