"So, how was it being at Scott's house?" Kirstie asks as she sits next to Mitch on his bed.
It's a couple days later after school. Scott and Mitch have decided to work separately today just to give each other a break. They've been working on this project together for four days now.
Mitch has spent most of his time at Scott's house, cutting and pasting things on their poster while Scott has been working on the essay.
Weird. Scott's house is normal but also set up so he can navigate around easily. His Aunt is really nice.
"Is Scott being nice to you?" Kirstie asks curiously.
He's being civil but I don't think he likes me. He doesn't like it when I ask questions about his wheelchair but I guess I understand. I can't help that I'm curious. I mean... something bad must have happened to him since he's in a wheelchair and everything. I would never ask him, but I'm just curious.
"Yeah, we're all curious but whatever happened is obviously something Scott doesn't want to talk about, just like you don't want to talk about your accident. Sorry to bring it up," Kirstie bites her lip nervously, but luckily Mitch doesn't seem bothered by it. Maybe... you should try to get to know him on a personal level. Not like... anything about his wheelchair but just... get to know him. Ask what are his favorite things and stuff like that," Kirstie smiles. "It might make working with him a little more bearable."
Mitch bites his lip and then nods, looking over at Kirstie.
Okay. I can do that, but I still don't think he'll talk to me.
"Why do you say that?" Kirstie asks, tilting her head slightly.
His Aunt told me that he has a really hard time opening up to people since his accident. She hasn't really told me much due to it being so personal but I think he lost his parents.
Kirstie gasps and shakes her head. "That's so horrible. Why do you think that that?"
Because he lives with his Aunt. I've been at his house for four days and haven't seen anyone else but those two. I haven't even really seen any pictures around either. I'm trying to put the pieces together but at the same... I don't want to cross the line.
"Yes, it's good not to. Scott seems like someone who'll get angry easily,"
I saw a scar on his body and he freaked out on me the other day. Well, not really. Kind of.
"I think you should get to know him better before you go snooping around his personal life," Kirstie says.
Mitch nods, knowing that Kirstie is right. He can't help but be curious?

What's your favorite color?
Scott blinks a few times when he looks down and looks at the note Mitch has passed him.
It's two days later when Mitch is back at Scott's house. He decided to take Kirstie's advice.
"I don't have a favorite color," Scott mumbles, pushing the note back over to Mitch.
Mitch pouts.
Everybody has a favorite color. Mine is blue.
"Why do you care so much about my favorite color?" Scott asks, slightly annoyed.
Mitch huffs, which instantly earns a look of surprise from Scott.
What?
"I know we haven't known each other that long... but, I've never heard you make a sound before,"
I try not to most of the times. Sometimes it hurts.
Scott slowly nods, and then he sighs. "My favorite color is also blue. That's all you get,"
Mitch pouts again.
That's all?
Scott rolls his eyes, though deep down in side, he can't help but find Mitch absolutely adorable right now. "Okay, what else did you want to know? And I'm not talking about..."
Mitch shakes his head before he can answer.
What's your favorite TV show? What music do you listen to? Do you have any hobbies?
Scott sighs and sets the pen down that he had been holding. "Okay..."
Mitch smiles and sits up, and sits in indian style to listen to Scott.
"I am not an interesting person so don't expect much..."
This time, it was Mitch's turn to roll his eyes.
"I'm being serious. I don't go out much and I spend most of my days in bed when I'm not at school, because my Aunt Claire doesn't trust me to go out anywhere without her assistance,"
Mitch nods, his full attention on Scott.
Scott sighs before looking down at Mitch's questions that he wrote.
"My favorite TV show... um, I don't know. I watch a lot of Netflix stuff but I don't have a favorite. I listen to a lot of music but Beyonce is like my all time favorite. She's my idol-"
Mitch smiles and nods excitedly, and points to himself.
Scott raises his eyebrows as he looks over at Mitch. "You like Beyonce as well?"
Mitch nods.
"Oh, uh... cool-" Scott mumbles and looks down at the note again. "I don't have any hobbies." He sighs and then he hands the note to Mitch. "I told you that I was not an interesting person."
Mitch bites his lip, and then he shakes his head and gives up, throwing the piece of paper away.
Scott obviously doesn't want to be his friend.
Nothing much happens after that, so Mitch decides just to go home.
Mitch is really disappointed that he didn't try hard enough to get to know Scott better. He thinks they could be friends. They obviously have a little bit in common but Scott just doesn't want to open up to him. Scott must not trust people. Mitch just doesn't know why.
Well, Mitch just needs to show Scott that he is trustworthy.
Mom, I don't want a birthday party!
"Come on kissyboy, you're turning seventeen and you've never had a birthday party..."
Because I don't have any friends. I told you this before.
"What about that boy Scott that you've been working on a project with?" Nel asks.
Scott doesn't like me. We're just working together on a project.
"I think you should try to find some people to invite over. I'm not saying that you have to throw some wild and crazy party which is not what I want you to do and wouldn't allow it anyways. But, maybe invite some people from school over?" Nel suggests.
Mitch frowns as he looks up at his mom. His birthday is one week away... could he pull this off?
Maybe Kirstie can help him gather enough people for a little "party".
Mitch doesn't want to get his hopes up, but he's feeling pretty good about this idea.
Okay mom, I'll try to invite people but I'm not making any promises!
