It was three days before Scott and Mitch's wedding when Mitch had lost his voice.
Aunt Claire had been at the apartment for a few hours, catching up with Scott about everything that had happened since he moved to L.A, when Mitch came running into the living room with tears on his face.
Scott looks up and gasps when he sees Mitch. "Mitch! What happened?"
Mitch places his hands on his neck and shakes his head.
"Mitch, you can't talk?" Claire asks, frowning. "Talk to me in sign language."
Mitch takes a deep breath. It had been quite awhile since he had to use sign language.
I was going to try practice singing earlier and no sound would come out. I thought it was just because I had just woke up but I can't talk either. I was doing so well. Why can't I talk anymore? Is my voice gone again? Please tell me it's not gone. My singing career is just getting started!
"Mitch, calm down. Your voice isn't completely gone so don't worry. You've been using your voice so much and you must not be used to it yet. You just still need a lot more practice. This happens a lot. All you need to do is rest your voice for a few days, especially right before your wedding. Drink a lot of water and try not to do anything too crazy that would strain your voice even more," Claire tells him.
Scott blinks a few times as he looks up at Claire. "How do you know all that?"
"Research," Claire replies with a shrug. "Everything will be fine, Mitch."
Mitch sobs and runs over to Scott, falling into his arms.
"Baby, I'm so sorry," Scott frowns as he takes Mitch into his arms, holding him tightly. "It'll be okay."
Mitch curls up in Scott's lap as tears continue to fall out of his eyes. It sucks not being able to talk after working so hard on his voice for the past few years and not being able to sing. He wanted to be able to sing a new song for Scott at their wedding and he'll be so upset if he won't be able to sing.
"Just do what Aunt Claire said to do and you'll be fine. Rest your voice and drink lots of water..."
Mitch whimpers and buries his face in Scott's chest, hugging him tightly.
"I sure have missed seeing you two together. I can't believe my little nephew is getting married this weekend, and I know you don't want to hear this but your parents would be so proud of you," Claire says, reaching over and gently rubbing Scott's back. "And I'm so proud of you. Both of you."
Scott looks up at Aunt Claire, a little surprised that she mentioned his parents. She herself doesn't even really like to mention her sister. "I've always, only wanted to make them proud," he whispered.
The next two days consisted of Scott taking care of Mitch. Normally it would be the opposite but Scott loved being able to take care of his boyfriend, even if it was just little things like getting Mitch water.
"I don't want to say goodbye to Mitch," Scott frowns as he looks up at Aunt Claire.
"It's only for a day. Besides, it's tradition not to see your bride before the wedding," Claire says. "Also... we need to work on your walking one more time if you want to surprise him."
"But... I know that I can do it already so why do I need to practice?" Scott asks.
"Well, a little more practice can't hurt, right?" Claire smiles. "Come on, Scott."
Scott whines, and wheels himself where Kirstie and Mitch were sitting on the couch in the living room. Mitch is slowly getting his voice back but it's still not quite back yet.
