Scott doesn't know how they did it, but they managed to get through the next two years of high school, and now they were free from that hell. Scott couldn't wait to be able to do things on his own.
And now, he doesn't have to do any of that alone because he has Mitch by his side.
They broke up at least two times during the past three years but they thankfully got back together. Scott is pretty sure Mitch hated Scott at one point but they got past that. Now there's nothing but love and Scott is thankful that they are still together.
"I want to move to L.A," Mitch announces one evening. It's two weeks after high school graduation and Scott is still deciding on what he wants to do in life. His options are very limited thanks to him being in a wheelchair, but Mitch has pushed him to pursue any dreams that he ever had. Just because he's in a wheelchair doesn't mean he shouldn't try.
"What?" Scott asks as he looks up at Mitch. "What did you just say?"
"I want to move to L.A and I want to take you with me," Mitch says.
"Are you out of your mind?" Scott asks, his eyes widening. "I'm in a wheelchair. How are you planning to get me to L.A? Because there's no way in hell I'm going on a plane."
"I already talked to my parents about everything, and even though it took them a long time to convince... they said they would drive us to L.A if you agreed to go with me," Mitch says. "I know you wouldn't want to go through the hassle of getting on a plane and everything. Driving would be easier. Longer, but easier... My dad loves to drive anyways so it's perfect."
"Mitch, I-I don't know about this," Scott says. "What about my Aunt Claire?"
"She already agreed with it as well. She thinks that it would be good for you to get out of Texas, and there's much more opportunities for you in L.A. She even said that she would help pay for an apartment and help get us started. Really, everybody has our backs with this... it's just up to you,"
"Where did you have time to talk to everybody about this without me knowing?" Scott asks.
Mitch laughs. "I'm very sneaky," he says. "I wanted to make sure everything was set in motion before I told you anything. I want to make sure everything is ready so we don't have to worry about anything. We can just pack and go with no problem."
"L.A is scary," Scott mumbles. "I'm in a wheelchair. I'll never make it there."
"I'm not saying that you have to go with me but... I want to start a music career and eventually go into the fashion world if I ever get the chance. I can't do either of those things in Texas. But, I also don't want to leave you behind. And, I even convinced Kirstie to come with us as well. A third person to pay the rent, and just... to help around. I know things won't be easy for you but we'll make it work. We'll find an apartment that doesn't have any stairs and that will be easy for you to navigate around."
"What happens when you get big in this music world. Where will that leave me?" Scott asks.
"I'll bring you to all of my concerts and you can sit in V.I.P with all of my friends and family, and we'll go on tour together and party on a tour bus!" Mitch exclaims with a smile on his face.
"That sounds nice Mitch, but that's not reality for me. I don't want to hold you back from your dreams. I... I still haven't even figured out what I wanted to do with my life yet," Scott mumbles.
"Scott?" Mitch asks, his eyes watering up. "Are you... breaking up with me?"
"Why do you want to be with someone who will hold you back? I don't want to be a burden,"
"You won't be a burden. I don't mind helping you out. I actually love helping you. It makes me feel useful that I can help someone else out. I know it's hard but don't think about all that stuff. Let's go to L.A and um, let's give it a try for like... a month. If you don't like it after a month... I'll let you come back home," Mitch says. "It'll be hard but we can make long distance work. I'll visit as much as I can."
"You really want to do that?" Scott asks.
"I'll do anything to keep you with me. I mean... I almost lost you once and I won't let that happen again."
Scott sighs in defeat. "Fine. I'll give it a shot but I'm not promising that I'll like it," he mumbles.
Mitch throws his arms up in victory and then he crawls over to Scott and kisses him passionately.
Scott's eyes widen slightly but he happily kisses Mitch back. "I love you angel," he whispers.
Mitch smiles as he stares into Scott's eyes. "I love you too. And you'll never be a burden to me. You know I'm willing to give up everything for you. It sounds crazy but that's what happens when you're in love. Dad thinks I'm about of my mind but he knows how much you mean to me,"
"So, you want to go into music... does that mean you've been practicing singing with Thomas?"
"Tommy hired a professional music teacher to help me. I sang my first full song the other day!"
"Mitchy, I'm so happy for you. I know how hard you've been working with Thomas, and you're speaking as gotten so much better too. All this work is going to pay off, and I cannot wait to hear you sing!" Scott grins.
"You'll be the first one to hear any song I record. Your opinion means so much to me," Mitch says.
"I can't say I know much about music but I'll definitely listen to your music. What song did you sing?"
"Telephone by Lady GaGa. You know how much I love that queen," Mitch giggles.
Scott laughs. "Yes, I do. She's all I ever hear you play,"
"Hey. You have no room to talk! How many times have I caught you listening to Beyonce?"
"Stop," Scott whines as he buries his face in his hands, his cheeks turning a bright pink.
Mitch laughs and grabs Scott's hands, and kisses him again. He continues the kiss, and then he moves his legs over so that he's now straddling Scott. "Fuck. Is Aunt Claire home?"
"She's at work," Scott replies, taking a deep breath as he looks up at Mitch.
Mitch smiles and then he pulls Scott's shirt off. "Is this okay?" He whispers.
"How many times do I have to tell you... it's more than okay. You never have to ask," Scott says before pulling Mitch into another passionate kiss. "But I appreciate that you look after me. I really do."
Mitch smiles and presses his forehead against Scott's. "I'm always going to look after you. I told you,"
