A/N: this chapter is short and boring (not joking lmao)

so maybe I'll do a double if I finish the next chapter to make up for it :)

Mitch had gone with Scott to the kitchen to get away from the others for a bit after that. He felt bad about how Kirstie practically cornered him and he wanted to apologize to him personally.

I'm sorry. Kirstie had no right to do that to you.

Scott shrugs and looks over at Mitch. "Not your fault,"

I know it's not my fault but she still shouldn't have done that to you. You don't have to talk about anything you don't want to. I know what you're going through. I've been there before.

"I, um... I'm sorry about what happened... to you," Scott says quietly. "The bullying."

It's okay. Well, it's not okay, but you can't change the past. You just have to move on.

"But you didn't deserve that. All because some asshole was homophobic? You lost your voice..."

I'm grateful to be alive. That's all that matters to me.

Scott stares at the note for a few seconds, staring at the words.

Not everybody can say the same thing, Scott thinks.

Scott closes his eyes before looking up at Mitch, but he doesn't say anything.

Mitch bites his lip and then he sits down at the kitchen table, deciding not to question Scott because he probably already feels upset after what just happened.

A few moments later, Claire walks into the kitchen and she is surprised when she sees that Scott and Mitch are there. She expected them to be in the living room with the others.

"Boys, what are you doing in here? Is everything alright?" Claire asks, walking over to Scott.

"I'm fine Aunt Claire, I just wanted to be alone for a minute. Mitch offered to come with me," Scott says.

"Oh, that was nice of you. Thank you for looking after Scott," Claire smiles at Mitch.

Mitch smiles and signs 'no problem'!

"Is there anything that you need Scott?" Claire asks.

"No, Aunt Claire. I'm fine," Scott rolls his eyes. "If I need anything... I'll just ask Mitch."

"Hey, you're my little nephew. I'm just looking out for you. I'm always going to worry about you,"

"Yeah, but just because I'm in a wheelchair doesn't mean I'm completely useless," Scott grumbles.

"Scott, are we really going to have this argument right now?" Claire asks.

Scott huffs and crosses his arms against his chest.

Mitch raises his eyebrows as he watches the two. He finds their relationship interesting.

Scott and Mitch sit in the kitchen, surprisingly enjoying each other's company, for another fifteen minutes, before they finally decide to go back to the living room with the others.

Kirstie looks over and sits up as soon as she sees Scott and Mitch. "Scott! I'm so sorry!"

Scott blinks a few times as he looks up at Kirstie in surprise.

"That was so rude of me, and I shouldn't have cornered you like that. I don't know what came over me. Please forgive me?" Kirstie asks as she stands up from the couch, looking guilty.

"Um," Scott bites his lip. "Okay... it's fine. I guess."

"I should have known better than to ask something like that. I mean... I know how Mitch feels when people ask him about his disability and his accident," Kirstie groans.

"It's fine... really," Scott says before wheeling himself over to the couch.

Mitch looks up at Kirstie and smiles at her, giving her a nod. He's definitely glad she realized why what she did is wrong. Nobody should feel pressured to talk about something they don't want to.

"So, what should we do next, Mitch?" Kirstie asks, looking at Mitch.

How about we watch a movie or something? We can play a board game... mom got out the games.

"Okay..." Kirstie smiles and nods, then she turns and looks at the others. "Mitch suggests that we play a board game, and we can have a movie playing as well. What do you guys think?"

"Sounds good to me," Kevin says, nodding.

"Yeah, that sounds fun. What movies you got?" Tori asks, smiling.

We have all kinds of movies. All of our movies are over on the shelf.

Ultimately, they decided on watching Mean Girls, as it was such a classic and Scott had never seen it before so MItch demanded that they watch it immediately. Scott really didn't care either way, of course. They also decided to play uno since it was a game that everyone could play.

All in all, Mitch had a great birthday party. He made some new friends and he got to spend time with Scott, which is what he wanted most out of this whole thing. He thinks that Scott trusts him a little more... but he can never be too sure but it's not like he's just going to give up.

Mitch isn't that type of person.

Scott and Mitch luckily ended up getting an A for their finished project.

Mitch is so happy and he's really proud of how the poster turned out. He and Scott worked hard on it, and luckily the teacher didn't question about Scott's working abilities which Mitch is pleased about because he had definitely been ready to argue against the teacher if that would have happened.
