Trigger Warnings: bullying and homophobic slurs, slight violence
****
The next day at school didn't get any better for Mitch.
Scott didn't show up, though Mitch didn't expect him to either.
Mitch is usually with Scott though which means no one bothers him, so as soon as people started seeing Mitch alone, they took advantage of the situation.
"Where's your little boyfriend?" One boy asks as he corners Mitch into one of the corners of the bathroom.
Mitch's eyes widen as he looks up at the boy who he recognizes as Ryan, one of his bullies.
"You have no one to protect you now, do you? It's just you and me..." Ryan smirks as he grabs Mitch and shoves him against the wall. "Can't call for help. It's just you... and me." He laughs.
Mitch wishes he could scream for help, or push Ryan away, but he's not strong enough to even try.
But Mitch tries anyways and he tries as hard as he can to shove Ryan away.
Ryan growls. "Don't fucking touch me, fucking fag!" He yells before throwing a punch at Mitch. He watches as Mitch falls to the ground. "Pathetic. All it took was one hit." He smirks and then he kicks Mitch before walking out of the bathroom without saying another word to him.
Mitch cradled his chin as tears begin to pour out of his eyes. He hadn't experienced this type of bullying in such a long time and he did not miss how horrible it felt.
Mitch sniffs and quickly pulls out his phone. His jaw is absolutely throbbing with pain and he's pretty sure that he's bleeding as he can taste the blood in his mouth.
There's absolutely no way he can stay at school today if this is how it's going to be like. Usually he's always with Scott so nobody bothers him and he doesn't have many classes with Kirstie.
Mitch quickly sends a text to his mom, asking her to pick him up because he was 'feeling sick'.
Mitch shakily stands up and he nervously walks over to the sinks. He looks in the mirror and instantly cringes when he sees how horrible his jaw looks. He reaches up to touch it but it hurts too much.
Mitch's lips begin to tremble. He just wants to curl up somewhere and hide from the world.
"Holy shit-"
Mitch jumps as soon as he hears a deep voice. He looks over and blinks a few times when he sees a boy with a beard standing in the hallway. He remembers this boy as Avi, who had gone to his birthday party.
"Whoa, are you alright?" Avi asks as he quickly walks over to Mitch, but Mitch quickly takes a step back, causing him to almost fall over from losing his balance. "Whoa-" Avi chuckles and catches Mitch before he can fall. "You're okay. Easy there, tiger."
Mitch blushes as he quickly holds onto Avi for support
"Mitch? Shit, what happened to your jaw?" Avi asks as he reaches over and grabs some paper towel.
Mitch pulls out his phone to communicate since he doesn't have his bag with him.
Some guy named Ryan. He likes to bully me.
"Are you serious? That's fucking messed up," Avi frowns.
I need to clean up before my mom gets here.
"Your mom is picking you up?" Avi asks, raising his eyebrows slightly.
It's been a really crappy day and I just can't deal with it.
"I totally understand. We all have those days but I imagine yours are worse. Let me help. Sit tight now... this might hurt a little bit but I'll try to be gentle," Avi says. He wets the paper towel and gently presses it to Mitch's jaw. "Oh gosh. I'm so sorry-" He frowns when Mitch flinches.
Avi manages to clean Mitch's jaw. It's a little bruised of course but Mitch will definitely be able to come up with an excuse for it. His mom would flip if she found out what actually happened to him.
"There," Avi smiles as he throws away the paper towel in the trash. "It should heal in a couple days but I would suggest putting an ice pack on that later so it doesn't get infected or anything."
Mitch nods and then he turns and looks in the mirror, and is surprised how clean it looks when just minutes ago it was all bloody. He looks over at Avi and then hugs him.
"Aw-" Avi smiles and hugs him back. "You're welcome."
Mitch pulls away from the hug and then he pulls out his phone and sees that his mom has just texted him to tell him that she's there. He almost doesn't want to go now. He wants to stay with Avi kind of.
My mom is here. I have to go.
Avi frowns. "Aw, okay. Maybe we can hang out again later?"
Mitch smiles and nods. Did he just make a new friend? He knew Avi from before but they haven't hung out much since his birthday party. Mitch needs another friend now more than ever.
I would love that. Thanks for helping me.
"No problem. Can I give you my phone number?" Avi asks.
Mitch nods and then he hands Avi his phone.
Avi puts in his number, making his contact 'Dragon Slayer (Avi)'.
Mitch grins when he sees the name, and then looks up at Avi.
I'll text you later. I gotta go before my mom starts freaking out.
"Can I walk you out?" Avi asks hopefully.
Mitch blushes and nods.
Avi grin and holds out his arm, which Mitch happily takes.
Avi was there for him today. Not Scott. He's going to make a note of that.
