Weeks pass and Mitch doesn't really hang around Scott much, which disappoints him because he thought that they were getting somewhere with their friendship after his party.

Did Scott just not like him? Mitch is confused. And, it doesn't help that Mitch has developed a crush on the blonde boy. He doesn't even know if Scott is even gay, which is the worst part.

It's the first day of winter break which means no school for two weeks, but Mitch wanted to go visit Scott, because he misses him. They see each other every day at school but never hang out.

"Mitch? What a surprise. What are you doing here?" Claire asks when she answers the door.

Mitch smiles and waves at her.

I just wanted to come see Scott if that's okay. I haven't talked to him much since the project. Is he around?

"Yes, he is around. Of course he is, Mitch. Scott could actually use some cheering up right now. This time usually isn't good for us, especially around Christmas" Claire sighs. "Scott's out in the backyard."

Mitch decided not to ask any questions, he's learned his lessons from doing that before.

Scott doesn't like to talk about his family. Mitch has a few hunches as to why, but never asks.

Claire shows Mitch out to the backyard, where Scott is sitting on their swing by himself, humming a song. Mitch has never heard him hum or sing before, and he thought Scott had a wonderful voice.

It's a bit chilly outside. Mitch is curious as to why Scott is outside and sitting on a swing by himself.

Mitch takes a deep breath before finally walking over to him.

Scott looks up and blinks a few times when he sees Mitch standing there. "Mitch?" He asks.

Mitch smiles and waves at him.

"Um, what are you doing here?" Scott asks, sitting up.

Mitch walks over to him and then pulls out his pen and paper from his little bag he carries around.

I just wanted to come say hi. How are you?

Scott stares at him for a moment before finally speaking. "Don't you have other friends?"

Mitch frowns as he stares at him, a little hurt by his comment. Scott knows he doesn't have many friends.

I'm sorry. I'll just go. Sorry for bothering you.

Mitch turns around and slumps his shoulders as he starts walking away.

Shot down again. Mitch should just give up already. Scott obviously doesn't like him.

"Wait!"

Mitch stops dead in his tracks, but he doesn't turn around.

"I-I'm sorry," Scott begins, biting his lip. "Mitch?"

Mitch takes a deep breath and turns to look at Scott with tears in his eyes.

Why is he getting so upset about this?

"I'm sorry. It's just... there's a lot going on right now and I didn't really expect to see anyone winter break," Scott mumbles. "I'm not used to having people want to talk to me. I've never really had any friends before."

Do you see me as a friend?

Scott bites his lip. "I think you're nice. I don't really know you well enough to call you a friend,"

You can get to know me. Ask me anything.

Scott hesitates for a moment before looking over at Mitch. "Are you gay?" He asks.

Mitch looks up at him in surprise before slowly nodding.

Scott takes a deep breath. He turns so that he's facing Mitch. "C-Can I trust you?"

Mich nods again, his full focus on Scott.

"I... I think I'm gay too," Scott whispers. "But I'm scared to tell my aunt."

Mitch frowns and hugs Scott before pulling away.

It makes Mitch happy that Scott is confiding in him in this way.

Tell her. I'm sure everything will be okay.

"But what if she kicks me out? I-I have no money. I'm in a wheelchair. I can't be homeless!" Scott exclaims.

I won't let you be homeless. If you really think she'll kick you out... maybe just ask her about how she feels about gay people. Then tell her if you think she'll be supportive. But if not, don't tell her. I know it sucks to hide who you are but safety comes first.

Scott slowly nods. "Okay, that's good advice. Thanks Mitch," he says.

Mitch smiles.

I was the same way when I discovered that I was gay. But my parents are supportive of me.

Scott flinches slightly after reading the night, and the he sighs.

Are you okay?

Mitch gently taps Scott on the shoulder, sensing his sadness.

Scott sniffs and looks over at him. "I'm sorry... it's just been a rough day," he mumbles.

Do you want a hug?

Scott stares at the note before slowly looking up at Mitch, and nodding as his lips start to tremble.

Mitch instantly wraps his arms around Scott and hugs him tightly.

Scott closes his eyes as he let's Mitch hug him, enjoying the feeling of warmth. He doesn't usually get hugs from people very often. Sure, there's Aunt Claire but it's not the same.

Scott wants to open up to Mitch but he's scared.

What if Mitch judges him and doesn't want to be with someone like him? Someone disabled like him.

Scott doesn't even realize that he's asking himself these questions.

It's not like he has a crush on Mitch or anything.

Mitch continues to hug Scott for awhile before pulling away.

Scott sniffs. "Thanks," he mumbles. "I-I really needed that."

Mitch smiles, and then he pulls out some tissues out of his bag and hands them to Scott.

Scott raises his eyebrows as he looks over at Mitch. "What else do you have in that bag?"

Mitch grins and opens the bag to show Scott everything he has.

"So, all the essentials," Scott chuckles. "Why does one boy need all that stuff?"

Mitch sticks his tongue out at him and sets his bag next to him.

"So, how long are you staying?" Scott asks, biting his lip slightly.

As long as you want me to stay.

Scott slowly nods. "Okay," he says, relaxing a little bit.

Silence passes over them, but it's a comfortable silence.

"Hey, Mitch?" Scott asks, looking over at him. "Can I tell you something?"

Of course. You can tell me anything.

Scott takes a deep breath. "I... I..." He hesitates. "I was in an accident... that killed my family."
