Chapter 18: REDD
Cole Redd pulled the bolt back on his sniper rifle, letting a heavy brass shell fly out the side of it, tumbling on the grass with a hiss from the excessive amount of dew. He was getting a round of applause and cheers from his spotter, Simon, or Angel as most people called him. He had gotten Alice, finally. After 19 years of conflict, he had ended it with two bullets, one of which he had made himself. The heatseeking bullet was his brain-child, casted, moulded, and welded by him, with a lot of electronics on. Redd pushed the bipod up, and slung the weapon over his shoulder.
"Redd," Angel said in his Cockney accent, his wide grin hidden underneath his balaclava with a skull printed on it. "You've done it, you've ended the war."
"No. I killed Alice. Someone else will take over in charge of the LSF, like Malone, or someone." He walked, back into the forest as Angel pulled a Glock from his vest, and slid an extended magazine into the bottom of the handle, in case of more LSF.
As they walked deeper into the forest, Redd stopped, when he saw two dead LSF on the ground.
"Hold up." Redd put a hand up in a fist, "Have we got any teams in the forest right now?"
"Not since the LSF got this base. You should know this."
"Well either we've got some of The Resistance out here besides us and Nine's team, the LSF are killing eachother, or something weird is going on here. These two guys were killed, execution style." He pointed to one of them. "This guy has a round in his leg, and his head, and this guy," He pointed to another. "Looks like he was interrogated and then executed."
Angel pulled his MP5 off his back in favour of some heavier firepower, and flicked the fire-switch from 'Safe' to 'Auto'. Then he walked around, looking for the footsteps of whoever killed the two men. But there were only prints from her trainers, of the like that hadn't been seen since the civil war of Landerwon had begun.
"Redd, look at these." Angel pointed at the footprints. "Civvie clothes, haven't seen those for a while. What do you reckon?"
"I have no idea."
"Are you sure you got Alice?" He said, scratching the back of his head.
"It sure as hell looked like her, from the back at least."
"You don't think that she could have been a... You know?"
"That's impossible. LSF are killing them off before we even know they exist. (Italics) If (Italics) they exist." Redd said as he tucked his 45 handgun into his vest houlster, and walked away from the dead men.
"We need to get down, see what's up with her. Who she is, because if she is a victim, and not Alice, we need to find out before the LSF. They may have missed one."
"If she is still alive, which is bloody unlikely, then Nine and Kendo will figure it out, they're supposed to confirm the kill."
