Chapter 55: CABIN

Alice crept up to the hill that the cabin stood on. It was definitely a nice one, a rustic yet modern type of place. It would have been something you’d see on an inspirational office poster, if not for the scene unfolding in front of it.

A woman that Alice could only see from the back, with blonde hair like hers tied back in a tight ponytail, was aiming an immense pistol at a cowering LSF soldier who was on his knees. His helmet was beside him, along with his jacket. Alice recognized his voice as one of the elite soldiers that was a guard for ZERO.

Alice got down to her stoumach in a higher position, overlooking the situation but still not able to see the blonde woman from anywhere besides the back.

She couldn’t hear exactly what the woman was saying, catching only a few words like “Fool!” and “Coward!”.

And then she heard a gunshot from the fifty calibre handgun that could easily be compared to the noise a cannon makes. The man’s face was replaced by a massive red hole, and the snow behind him was spattered with blood as far five feet away.

The woman casually slid her handgun back into a black houlster at her side. She turned to talk to her only remaining guard who was standing extra attentively. Alice looked at the gear the blonde woman was wearing, a black tactical vest, the large white letters of LSF stencilled to the back, as well as the LSF patch, which was also on her shoulder.

The patch was a large circle, a full moon in the upper right of the patch taking up about a sixth of the total badge. The moon was on a deep blue background, complimented by the occasional star. Grasping the moon with its front paws was a large tiger, disproportioned to the moon, being about three times as large. The tiger was caught in mid growl, standing on its hind legs. In the bottom of the patch was again, the white lettering of LSF.

The woman also wore black fatigues, the sleeves rolled up on her shirt, with black gloves on both of her hands which had non-chalantly killed a man in cold blood just seconds ago. Alice wondered who this person was, exactly.

Almost on cue, the woman turned around. Alice skipped a breath.

 She saw her.

 Alice’s face.

 On this person.

Had Alice found her doppelganger? Was that even really possible? What were the odds that someone identical to Alice had ended up here?

The chances were an absolute zero. Alice needed to know what was going on. She turned to Redd, but he was already aiming his scoped rifle at Alice’s twin’s head.

“Redd? What the hell is going on?”

“This is ZERO. The general of the entire LSF.” Redd managed to get these sentences out before receiving a call from the Resistance handler of this mission, Jacob Glass, “Negative Glass, I have ZERO scoped in now! Request to take the shot!”

A short pause occurred as Redd received another transmission from Glass before responding, “Affirmative, copy all. Girl is priority one, ZERO is number two. Redd out.”

Redd looked at the team, “Weapons down. Taking ZERO out is priority two.”

Angel swore quietly. “This is the closest anyone’s ever been.”

Redd nodded. “I know. Let’s just get priority one finished so we can finish this war.”
