Chapter 36: EXFIL
After Alice shot Dustin, with no idea of who he was, or what he was thinking and not thinking of when he died, Taco planted C4 on some of the bodies.
"Alright, we're goo-"
The window on the door was shattered.
"Down!"
Angel kicked the door open, and pulled Krew in. He hadn't been hit, and they probably hadn't seen him, but he was unconcsious and he was unable to defend himself.
"Alright, I'll hold em' off, just get to the helicopter, and have them take these guys out, I've got ammo!" Redd yelled, letting his rifle drop to his side and snatching an M16 off of the floor.
"Be careful!" Angel yelled over the sound of a full auto weapon being fired.
Redd nodded, but was thrown to the ground by what seemed like nothing.
But there was a hole in the metal door, the size of a bullet.
Alice got beside him, and saw that the bullet had gone through his forearm.
"AH... OKAY... OKAY." He sat up, "Go."
"No, Redd, you're hurt, stay down." Alice reloaded.
"We'll... Hold em' off together."
"Got it." Alice hoisted Redd off the ground, using his right hand instead of his left one, which had a bullet in it... Somewhere.
Taco planted the last brick of C4 on the back wall, and before he detonated it to let the rest of the team through, he tossed Alice a grenade, thankfully, with the pin in. The he took cover, and detonated it. A hole was blown in the wall, and the rest of the men walked ran through, running to the rallypoint where a helicopter was touching down.
"Command, this Captain Cole Redd, touch down helicopter at primary rally point, be advised, General McCormick and myself are holding the LSF off until the rest of the team gets in. Be advised, Ivan Krew is down, repeat, Ivan Krew is down. Bring in the fleet, we need you to bail us out of this."
"Roger Captain, copy all. We're bringing in the birds now, and we have a visual on the team.
Redd fired a three round burst out the door that he had slightly open. He was crouched behind it, his rifle barrel poking out the front. He wasn't a great shot with an automatic weapon, and was not helped by his shaking, bleeding left arm. But he was a decent shot when it came to crunch time.
Alice was prone, firing out the door as well. She spotted a guy with a long tube over his shoulder, and fired at him, but he slid behind a rock before Alice could hit him. There were bright worklights behind the LSF, and so they were silhouetted. She shifted her fire to another guy, and he fell to the churning mess of black mud.
Alice had forgotten the man with the tube completley, but was reminded as she heard the tell-tale sound of a rocket launcher firing. She grabbbed Redd by his pack, and pulled him down onto the ground with her. The entire front was hit, as the rocket from the M72 LAW that the man had been carrying slammed into the building. Alice tried to sit up, but realized her chet was pinned by a large piece of the wall. She grunted and strained, but she couldn't get it off of her. Her breaths became laboured and shaky, and with every exhale, he brick pushed harder on her chest, and made it harder to breath. As the oxgyen, carbon dioxide, argons, everything around her became impossible to get, things went black, the gunfire quieted...
And everything came back at once.
The twenty plus pound load on her chest was relieved, and she saw Redd crouched overtop of her, his head bleeding mildly and his brow covered with a watery combination of sweat and blood. She breathed, three deep inhale-exhales. Then she got up. Her gun was on the ground a few feet away from her, and she reached over to grab it.
