Chapter 42: FORMED
"So, long story short, we need a team to get into the glacier."
"We have a new team formed. Alpha Team."
"Who's on it?"
"Cole Redd, Nine, Ivan Krew, James Sydney, Simon RIley, Alice McCormick."
Alice grinned. "Sounds like a pretty crappy team."
"They were fairly succesful on their maiden mission."
"Okay." Alice said seriously now. "When do we ship out?"
"Sooner the better. What time is it now, General?"
"Nine o'clock PM."
"Okay. Three hours."
"Sounds good, want me to get the team for briefing?"
"Yeah I can do that. Get 'em to the Command tent."
(Break)
Alice began to round up the team. She found Nine in the tent, and told him to just stay there. She was also told that Taco and Redd were staying sharp at the firing range.
The firing range was surrounded by heavy crates full of rocks as sound insulation. The bench that you fired over was a stak of sandbags. Alice was going to walk in, but she heard her name mentioned. She stayed back, and listened to their conversation.
"So." Taco began in-between bursts of fire. "What do you think of Alice?"
"What's there to think about?"
"Well, she's a hell of a fighter. But... Viscious. The only person I've ever seen fight like that was MacDonald, but he was fighting for a family. Alice just came out of nowhere and started fighting like she had nothing to lose."
"What did MacDonald fight like? By the time I was here he was already hostage by the LSF."
"Viscious, almost like he enjoyed the killing. He would always take a knife to the LSF rather then a gun if he had a choice."
"He wanted to get up close and personal with the bastards..."
"Right." Redd said. He fired another burst at a target. "He was so cold about killing, but so skilled. He never screwed up an assassination."
"Like Angel?"
"Angel has failed a few assassinations, he doesn't like to be reminded of them."
"I see." Taco said. "Oh nice shot Cole." He paused, maybe considering if he should say what he had in mind. "So, what do you think of Alice?"
"What do you mean?"
"Well, do you like her?"
"She's pretty and all but-"
"Pretty? She's drop-dead sexy. And... I can tell you kind of like her."
"Damn it James." Redd growled. "She's just a kid."
"Come on..." He said slyly. "I know you like he-" His sentence was cut off by the hollow sound of his vest being shoved.
"Okay fine..." He said as he reorchestrated himself. "But I think she's hot."
After about another minute of them shooting in silence, Alice decided now was a good time to go and grab them since it wouldn't seem like she had been listening in.
She walked in.
"Hi guys."
"Oh, hi Alice!" Taco so akwardly Alice would have been suspicious if she hadn't been listening.
"So, we're approved for a mission. Meet in the command tent as soon as possible. Kendo is briefing."
"Yeah, we'll do that." Redd said as he pulled the mgazine out of the AK-47 he had been firing.
Alice walked out, seeing Taco and Redd differently now, like a different side had been exposed. She then walked outside the base, where she found Angel, mask off, smoking a hand-rolled cigarette.
He didn't take his eyes off of the sky that he was blowing smoke through his teeth at. "Hi Alice."
"Hey... What's... What's up?"
He motioned to the overcast sky above him. "The sky."
Alice laughed. "So, we got a mission approved, Command Tent as soon as possible, Kendo'll brief."
"Got it. Let's grab Krew and go."
(Break)
After finding Krew, the team sat down in a briefing room. Kendo stood at the front, an interactive map of Landerwon projected on the wall.
"Okay, settle down. Settle down. We got a mission."
The team shut up.
"Right. The asshole who defected from the LSF is going to tell us everything he knows if we can get his girl out of LSF territory. She's in the Glacier." Kendo opened up a telescopic pointer, with some sort of tiny device on the tip, because when he tapped the general area of the Glacier with the pointer, it expanded into a more detailed map.
Alice looked at the diagram of the area. There was just a single wide road that entered the Glacier from the Forest. It winded irregualrly, eventually tracing through a roughly circle shaped manmade object, about the size of an orange. Kendo tapped it, which opened up a detailed diagram.
"This is the LSF base. The place is circular, about a half kilometre in diameter. It's surrounded by ridges and mountain ranges. You'll be taking air transport in, before landing down on a ridge. Then you'll be move into the base, maintaining stealth, and finally going here." He pointed to a house to the east of the base, on top of the far ridge. "Then just get her out of there. Easy day."
"Sounds good. What's the exfil?"
"We got a zodiac coming through on the coast, here. As you can see, the road will take you straight through from infil to exfil. As always, the LSF are expendable, but only kill when it is required and won't get spotted. Any questions?"
"No sir." Redd said. Getting out of his chair. "Team A, let's get set up."
(Break)
Alice had gotten suited up in warm, white camoflauge. Her weapons had been painted white, with the ACOG sight having a white elastic around it on her M4 Carbine. She pulled a USP .45 out and silenced that along with her rifle. Angel had a ghost mask for every occasion it seemed like, with this one being a white mask with a black skull. However he left it off until after the flight.
"You look like a snowman." Angel said, grinning as he got suited up
"Deadly snowman" Alice corrected, grining as she went over her M4.
"Okay, now we wait." Redd said, pulling his sleeve back to look at a combat watch.
"For what?" Krew asked as he pulled a white tuque onto his head.
"AC-130 Plane."
"Have you been smoking that wierd stuff again?" Taco said accusingly.
"No." He glared at Taco. "No. You remember Parker the mostly insane one?"
Taco got a sly look on his face. "The one you were sleeping with a few years ba-"
"ARE YOU DONE?!" Redd yelled.
"She went on a secret mission to Threader City." Angel took over. "And she flew back on an AC-130. And we get it. And we get to crash it. It's gonna be fun."
"Okay, well you're high too..." Taco said under his breath.
Angel laughed. "Shut it you jammy git!"
"Wait," Krew interupted. "Where the hell is Nine?"
