In previous weeks Connie had avoided the family time that her daughter craved so much, but after the rushed end to her week she knew she needed to find the time again. As she came in that morning she found Grace already slumped across the sofa with the television on.

Her eyes lifted as Connie dropped her bag to the side before falling onto the sofa beside her. "Don't you have work?" "Nope... I told you, I just had to go into the office to fill something out." Grace nodded turning back to the TV as Connie watched how distant her daughter seemed. There was nobody to blame for their deteriorating friendship but her, she just wasn't sure how to fix things.

Keeping quiet, Connie remained sat beside her daughter for a while longer before removing herself from the awkward situation and wandering into the kitchen. Grace watched silently as her mother walked away, confused as to when things became so quiet between them.

Sighing she fell back to the sofa, holding onto the cushion she lay on. Connie took her phone from her bag before putting it down on the side. Looking around the kitchen for something to distract her she came up short realising that everything had already been done. Jacob was in work and she knew that even if he had been at home it would make no difference. He had spent all the time with Grace lately and it seemed their relationship was better than what Connie was managing to maintain with her own daughter.

Glancing back to Grace, she placed a hand to her stomach involuntarily as she thought about how easily she seemed to mess things up in her personal life. To be quite frank, she was surprised she'd managed to keep things healthy with Jacob long enough for him to want to marry her. Turning away she missed Grace looking up to her, watching as Connie placed her hands out in front of her leaning on the counter.

Getting up Grace wandered into the kitchen always keeping her eyes on her mother's back. Connie released a heavy breath before standing up and turning around only to come face to face with Grace. Within a matter of seconds she had stepped forwards wrapping her arms around her mother's waist. Connie dropped her hands to her daughter's back as she held her against her tightly.

"Do you really not have any work to do today?" Shaking her head she looked down at Grace. "No, work was rather busy so I took a few days away. Figured we could all use it." She smiled gently up at her as Connie placed her hands to her shoulders. "Where's Jacob?" "At work sweetheart-" "So we can have a day, just me and you? Like we used to." Gradually a small smile worked its way onto her face as she nodded. "Of course we could."

Grace moved into the living room switching the TV off before coming straight back to the kitchen, sitting herself up on one of the stools. "Good, because Jacob was no good to talk to about school and boys." "Boys?" Connie arched her brow as Grace dropped her head down to the counter causing her mother to laugh.

Moving forwards, she rested against the table as Grace looked up to her. "Anyone in particular?" "Muuuuum-" "What!? I'm just curious, that's all." Grace rolled her eyes as she rest her head in her hands looking to her. "Hugo has been spending all his time with me-" "You mean you've spending all your time with Hugo?" "Same difference Mum, anyway, people have started talking about it at school."

Connie nodded as she took the seat opposite her. "Are you happy sweetheart?" Grace smiled nodding her head quickly. "Hugo cheers me up, and he makes me laugh when we've argued or fallen out. He always knows what to say and he helps me with my homework." "Then I say let people talk about whatever they like, don't let them change your friendship."

Grace smiled standing up as she wandered around the kitchen table towards the stairs. "Friendships... Yeah-" "Grace? Why do you say it like that?" "I must have forgotten to tell you-" "Tell me what?" "Doesn't matter Mum." Connie arched a brow folding her arms above her bump as Grace laughed at her. "Grace Beauchamp-" "He asked me out, that's all." Grace shrugged like it was no big deal before rushing the final part of her sentence quietly. "And I might have said yes so technically we're not friends. Anyway I'm gonna get changed-" "Grace!"
