The movie was crazy. Jordan and Alex screamed like girls while Cater just looked at them annoyed. After the movie Carter tried to drag Alex back to the apartment but of course she wasn't going for it. They were now sitting in a 24-hour diner at 2:45am.

"You do know you have to get up at nine am tomorrow right?". Carter reminded her again.

"You do know your reminding me of a babysitter I used to have when I was eight". Alex smirked.

Carter rolled his eyes.

"Why does everything have to be so complicated with you?". He fired.

"I don't know, but if I'm to high maintenance for you, you could always quit". Alex rolled her eyes turning to Jordan.

"You know, you guys would make a cute couple". She smiled between the two.

"Girl please! Everything would be a complete snooze fest with this guy". Alex looked over to Carter.

"And everything would be a party with this girl". He rolled his eyes staring down at his coffee.

It got silent. Which Alex didn't like.

"Let's go, I'm tired". She slid closer to Jordan.

"Sure, I've got things to do in the morning too". Jordan stood from the booth.

Carter looked relieved, he stood up and walked outside.

"I can sense he was a nerd in highschool". Jordan smirked.

"Probably lower than the nerds". Alex chuckled.

They walked outside to see Carter on the phone in a heated discussion.

"Who the hell is he talking to?". Jordan frowned.

"I don't know. But it looks like he wants to kill them". Alex ignored him walking to the car.

Carter got off the phone and got into the car.

It was an awkward silence that fell among them.

"How about we get rid of the elephant in the room". Jordan piped up.

"What elephant?". Carter asked looking around.

"No stupid, she means let's discuss what we are all thinking". Alex rolled her eyes.

"Oh. You mean the phone call?". He asked.

"Duh". Jordan smirked.

"It was nothing, just a disagreement". He shrugged.

"Whatever Mr. Dark and Mysterious". Alex pulled up to Jordan's house.

"By Jordan I'll call you tomorrow". Alex called out the window.

"Why call her tomorrow if you just saw her tonight?". Carter asked.

"Because we've always done that. When you've known somebody for this long you gotta keep in touch and stay in touch. I've known Jordan since diapers. And she was one of the few that didn't switch up when shit blew up for me. Good and bad. Jordan was there. And being friends with me, she never looked for a hand out. Hell, she even forced me to let her pay for my coffee tonight. All I'm saying is, you only find a relationship like that once in a lifetime. And when you get that you do whatever you can to keep it". Alex wiped away a stray tear.

"Damn. That's deep". Carter looked over to Alex as they sat in the apartment complex parking lot.

"I have a tendency to get deep sometimes". Alex shrugged.

"I had one of those, but uh, things happen you know". He sighed.

"You want to talk about it?". Alex looked over at him.

"We should get you inside and in bed". He answered.

She rolled her eyes getting out of the car.

How had she opened up a little about herself and he just completely shut her out?

He followed behind her as she walked up stairs to the apartment.

She got her key out and went inside to see Alice sitting on the couch.

"Hey you two". She smiled.

"Hey". Alex went into the bedroom of the apartment leaving Carter and Alice in the living room.

"Is there something going on between you too?". Alice stood from the couch.

"No". Carter frowned.

"Good. Because she doesn't need any distractions". Alice began walking toward Carter.

"And, I want you all to myself". She was right in front of him now.

Carter wasn't at all attracted to Alice. She was a cougar. She was in her fifties. And he was twenty one.

"Uhm, thanks but I uh-don't mix buisness with pleasure". He attempted to let her down easy.

"Fine. But you'll wish you'd taken up the offer when you had the chance". Alice walked out the door.

Carter closed and locked the door.

"Alice is gone?". Alex came from the bedroom with pajamas on.

"Uhm-yea she tried to make a pass at me". He stated.

"I think you misunderstood. Alice had a husband. They've been married for twenty year. That's not something you just throw away". Alex folded her arms.

"So your saying I'm making this up?". Carter frowned.

"No, I know sometimes that Alice's nice gestures can come off as flirtatious. But she wouldn t do that to Sam. He loves her. They have three kids together. That alone could be enough to not want to throw a marriage away". Alex explained.

"Not all marriages are happy". Carter stated plainly.

"And how do you know?". Alex rolled her eyes.

"I've been in one". Carter turned and walked out the door leaving Alex stunned.
