Alex woke up and Carter was gone. After a while at the beach they went home and went to bed. Alex looked around and found a note from Carter.

Went on a job interview, see you later

-xoxo Carter

Alex got out of bed and showered. She threw on sweatpants and a crop top. She went to Kayden's room and he was still sleeping.

She went downstairs and cooked breakfast. She made french toast and bacon.

She was eating her food in the living room when the doorbell rang.

Alex put her plate in the sink and answered the door.

"Hi, I'm India, Carter left this at my house in New York". She handed Alex Carter's phone.

"Uhm, thank you. If you don't mind me asking, who are you?". Alex narrowed her eyes at this woman.

"Well I met Carter at the beginning of this month and we've been dating for a couple weeks now". India recounted.

Alex was shocked.

"You must be Rosae. Carter has told me so much about you". India smiled.

"He has? So India what was the last thing you and Carter said to each other?". Alex wanted to gain all the information she could.

"Well he told me he had to leave for a work situation, and he told me he loved me". India replied.

Alex nodded.

"Well it was nice meeting you India. I will tell Carter you came by". Alex smiled fakely.

"Alright thank you". India waved and walked away from the front door.

Alex closed the door.

She had to take deep breaths to calm herself down before Carter came home, because when he did there would be hell to pay.

When Carter came home, Alex was wahing dishes. Kayden was awake eating his breakfast in his room.

"Hey baby". He greeted kissing the side of her head.

"How was your interview?". Alex focused on the dishes to keep from breaking a plate over his head.

"It went well. They said they'd call if they wanted to hire me". He replied.

"That sounds promising". Alex sighed.

"You OK? You sound different". He looked to Alex.

"Just tired". She put the last dish in the drying rack.

"Lets go in the living room so you can tell me all about your trip to New York". Alex went into the living room.

Carter sat on one end of the couch and Alex sat on the other.

"Why you so far?". He asked.

"I think its best for your safety that I sit this far". Alex retorted.

"Why?". He frowned.

"You wandered didn't you?". She spoke in a low tone.

"Wandered? Alex what are you talking about?". He frowned.

"Nevermind that. What happened while you were away?". Alex changed the topic quickly.

"Uhm, nothing just work and missing you and Kay". He smiled.

"Mhm". Alex grew increasingly angry.

"What's with the interrogation questions Alex?". He questioned.

"I just want to know why, after all this time of me holding you down you couldn't do the same for me". She chuckled bitterly.

"Alex, I think there's something I need to tell you". He let out an uneasy breath.

"You think? Why so confused?". She cocked her head to the side.

"Because I think you already know". He spoke quietly.

"No. I don't know. What are you trying to say?". Alex hoped he would tell the truth.

"After I landed in New York, I found myself unhappy with my job so I quit then, I wanted to find myself so I met up with India. She was the woman I first married when I was eighteen. We hit it off and went on a couple dates. She told me she loved me and I found myself saying it back. Then I tried to break things off once I knew I wanted to marry you, but she wasn't taking the hints. I left and I guess I left my phone in New York". He explained.

Alex stared at him. That's all she could do. If she opened her mouth something Kayden shouldn't hear would come out. If she moved, something Kayden shouldn't see would happen.

After a couple of minutes, she finally opened her mouth.

"Do you love her?". She asked.

He was silent.

"I don't know". He answered truthfully.

Alex nodded slowly.

She stood up and headed toward their bedroom. She packed up some clothes for both her and Kayden. She picked up Kayden and headed back downstairs.

"Alex! Baby where are you going?!". Carter jumped off the couch.

Alex headed out the front door and went to her car.

"Alex don't leave me". He chased after her.

She strapped Kayden in and put the duffle bag on the floor.

"Alex please, I don't love India, I promise". He pleaded with her.

"That's the second time you've lied to me throughout our whole time knowing each other". She swiped away a tear.

She got in the car and drove off.
