Alex woke up feeling refreshed. It was her first good sleep since the hospital. She wanted to put that behind her. She got out of bed amd placed pillows all around Kayden. He couldn't walk just yet, but he was getting there. She showered and threw her wavy hair into a messy bun. She looked into the bed to see Kayden still sleeping. She went downstairs where everyone was up and about. Carter still wasn't back yet. Jordan was making breakfast. Alice was on the phone with a reporter and Edwin was still asleep on the couch. Alex walked into the living room and shut the tv off considering no one was watching it. She went back upstairs to check on Kayden who was awake.

"Hey handsome". She smiled.

"Ma!". He smiled attempting to stand on his own.

Alex watched him to see if he would walk or not. Hopefully he would.

"Come give me a hug". She grinned holding her arms out to him.

He began wobbling toward her then full on walking.

"Awww my baby!". She kissed his face proud of his accomplishment.

She took him downstairs where Jordan was.

"Look at your godson". She smiled proudly.

She put him upright on the floor and he began walking toward Jordan.

"Ayyyy! Look at him". Jordan beamed picking him up.

"High five!". Jordan raised her hand up.

He hit his hand against hers and she set him back down.

"I missed him so much". Alex smiled watching him walk around and falling sometimes.

"We missed you too". Jordan smiled to her bestfriend of fourteen years.

"So, what's for breakfast?". Alex tried to peek over Jordan.

"No! It's a suprise for you. So your just gonna have to wait until I'm done". Jordan pushed Alex out of the kitchen.

"Ugh you know I hate suprises". Alex groaned.

"Well I like them so to bad". Jordan stuck her tongue out.

Alex went into the living room to see Alice and Kayden watching cartoons together.

"Having fun?". Alex smirked at the two.

"Oh, yeah he wanted to watch tv". Alice smiled down at Kayden who had his eyes locked on the tv.

"By the way, what is she cooking? She's been cooking since like six". Alice asked.

"I have no idea, she refuses to tell me". Alex shrugged.

Alice nodded and continued watching tv.

Alex didn't know what to do now. She had a million notifications on her phone that she needed to eventually deal with and she also wanted to go and see Carter.

"Hey?! Where's Carter? I haven't seen him since yesterday". Alex questioned Alice.

"Oh! He quit". Alice said nonchalantly.

"He what!?!". Alex frowned.

"He quit. Last night he came by the office to resign. Said he had found a better job in New York". Alice explained.

"In New York? That's all the way across the country". Alex shrieked.

"Well he is scheduled to leave this afternoon if you want to say your last goodbyes". Alice shrugged.

Alex frantically looked around for someone's car keys. She found Jordan's and bolted out the door. She got in Jordan's car and sped to Carter's apartment. So many thoughts raced through her head. Was Carter moving because of the incident? Why wouldn't he tell her about his new job offer? He said they were friends, friends tell each other things like this.

She finally reached his apartment building and his car was still in its space. It was packed with stuff. She walked up to his apartment door which was wide open and she went inside.

"Carter?". She called out.

She had never been to his house before.

"Just a second Ms. Guntrail". He called.

She followed his voice and it led her to a back bedroom.

"Carter!". She folded her arms.

He was turned away from her, packing up some t-shirts. He turned around stunned that Alex was standing in front of him.

"Alex-w-what are you doing here?". He questioned.

"No! The question is what are you doing here!". Alex was a little upset.

"Alice, I guess she-". He was cut off by Alex holding her hand up.

"Why?". Was all she asked.

"Why what?". He frowned.

"Why move across the country and leave me wondering where you are for all this time? What were you going to do, call me once you got settled in your New York apartment? Or were you even going to tell me at all?". She spat.

"I admit that this shit is wrong, but you shouldn't care. We aren't even that close". He stated.

"Not that close?! Dude! You practically saved me from killing myself! If that doesn't bring us closer then I don't know what will!". Alex was yelling now.

"It was a good samaritan act". He fought.

"Good samaritans don't swaddle someone they aren't close with.  You held me after pulling me up from that balcony. Good samaritans don't do that". Alex spoke softly.

"Just drop it". Carter continued packing boxes.

"What are you running away from?". Alex asked sternly.

"Nothing". Carter lied.

"Tell me!". She demanded.

"You! I'm running away from you! Ok! Damn Alex is that what you fucking wanted?!". He yelled in her face.

"Me? Why?". Alex was confused.

"Because seeing someone I cared about like that was just too much! I couldn't face you after that!". Carter explained.

"I didn't think you'd feel this way". Alex whispered.

"I didn't think I would either". He ran his hands down his face.

"But why avoid me? Why move to the other side of the country? Why not stay here and face your fears?! You told me to trust you! How can I do that when you can't even come to me when we have a problem?!". Alex was getting angry again.

"I only wanted you to trust me so you wouldn't let go of my hand". He shrugged.

Alex was beyond confused.

"So your back to this good samaritan bullshit". Alex threw her hands up in defeat.

"I told you! I'm trained to try and deescalate any situation from its current position. I did that to calm you down. I couldn't have you thrashing around, then we'd both fall. How would that have helped anyone?". He continued packing.

"You don't mean that Carter". Alex shook her head.

"Oh really? Then why is my apartment full of boxes that are going to be shipped to New York tonight". He looked at her sideways.

"I don't know! That's what I'm trying to figure out!". She yelled.

He didn't say anything now. She knew this wasn't going anywhere so she just gave up. She didn't have time to be fighting with Carter about leaving for a so called better job opportunity.

"Carter, before I go I want you to know something". Alex turned to him.

"What?". He faced her now.

"When I was holding onto your hand, dangling off that balcony, I didn't let go because I thought you understood why I did it. I thought you cared. If I had known this was going to happen, I would have let go". Alex stared him down.

He was speechless. With that said, she walked out of the apartment, leaving Carter stunned. Alex was upset because Carter wouldn't tell her what was really bothering him. And the fact that it bothered him so much, he had to move across the country. Alex drove home silent, all the memories of these couple months passing by. She didn't care that Carter was moving to New York for a better job. All she wanted was answers.
