Two Months Later
Janai had set up a meeting for Alex and their mother to have a meeting considering that Alex's wedding was a week away.
"Janai are you sure she wants to see me?". Alex was worried.
"She wanted this as much as you did. She wants to put everything behind you since Dad is dead". Janai explained.
"Ok. I can do this". Alex sighed.
They arrived at Gretchen's house.
Alex was amazed at how she had gotten life back after all this time. Janai parked and cut the car off. They went up to the front door and rang the doorbell.
Gretchen quickly opened the door.
"My two daughters together again". Gretchen cooed.
She pulled Janai into a hug first and then Alex. The hug lingered for a bit.
She led them into the house and she had cooked dinner.
"I hope you all are hungry". She began to make them plates.
Alex and Janai sat in the dining room.
Gretchen came back with the food.
"Mom, instead of dinner, I was thinking we could get some answers". Janai smiled carefully.
"Ok. What are your questions?". Gretchen pushed her food away.
"Why did you guys fake Dad's death?". Alex piped up.
"Black, the big dealer in the south was coming to kill your Father and we didn't know if he would hurt you guys too, so we acted like I killed your Father for the entire drug game and I skipped town with Alex". She answered.
"Why did you guys split us up!". Janai asked.
"We didn't have the energy to take care of two kids at the time. To take care of Alex was enough but two kids? That's a lot. Your grandma offered to take you because she knew what we did and how dangerous it was she wanted to take Alex too but I wouldn't allow it. I may not have shown it Alex but I really do love you. And loved having you around". Gretchen began to cry.
Alex pulled her into a hug.
"It's ok Mom. I understand". Alex nodded.
"But wait, why did you turn me away when I came to visit you?". Alex frowned.
"Your Father got to me before you did. He told me that if I told you the truth he would make sure that you and Janai got hurt. I didn't know what had gotten into him. The game had gotten in the way of his family and he grew to want to kill anyone who got in his way. Even me. His own wife. We never even got a divorce we were just separated for the time being until after he eliminated Black". Gretchen explained.
"Wow. You know Mom. I never got to apologize for sending you away. It was my bad. I had always thought he was the good guy and you were the bad guy". Alex explained.
"It's ok. You wanted to fight for your son and you did. I raised you to go after what you want and you did". Gretchen nodded.
Alex sighed.
"I actually have to meet with the detective who was undercover, working with Dad. I meet up with him today". Alex informed them.
"Well, tell him I said thank you". Gretchen looked serious.
"Why?". Janai frowned.
"If that bastard was still alive today all our lives would be at risk". Gretchen shook her head in disappointment.
