Alex stepped out into the cold air. The snow crunching under her boots.
"You sure you ready for this?". Carter asked.
"I need to do it sometime or later". Alex sighed.
She interlocked her and Carter's fingers and went toward the entrance.
They were now in Georgia. Her so called sister Janai had led them here to meet Alex's "dead" Dad. Alex looked over to the small diner.
"This is it". She put her shades over her eyes.
Carter opened the door.
"Good afternoon. Table for two?". The host asked.
"Actually we are joining someone, a girl". Alex informed her.
The host looked around and sat them with Janai.
"Good morning". Janai chirped.
"Cut the cute act. I'm here for one reason and one reason only. And it isn't to mingle and be friendly with you". Alex spat.
"Wow, someone needs a coffee". Janai smirked.
Alex sat back in her seat. She felt herself get more and more anxious and angry.
Janai's phone rang.
"Hello?". She answered.
There was a long pause and then she hung up.
"He's at the meeting place". Janai informed them.
The three got up and went outside.
"You sure your not cold?". Janai furrowed her eyebrows.
"Don't worry about me". Alex got into the car with Carter.
"You ready?". She looked over to him.
"I am. I'm here for you". He put his hand on Alex's thigh.
Alex held his hand as she followed Janai to the meeting place.
*
Thirty minutes later they arrived at an empty snowy field. Janai parked her car and Alex parked next to Janai.
A few yards across the field, Alex could see two black SUV's.
Janai called Alex on the phone.
"He's gonna get out soon. Don't say anything offensive. Don't raise your voice either. He's very short-tempered when it comes to disrespect". Janai warned.
"Unluckily for him, so am I". Alex hung up the phone.
Across the field she saw six men come out of each truck.
"Showtime". Alex sighed.
Alex and Carter both got out.
Each group walked towards each other. Alex reached for Carter's hand.
He looked to her.
"No matter what happens. I'm gonna protect you". He reassured her.
The two groups finally reached the middle of the field.
No one said anything for a while then a voice spoke up.
"Well, isn't this a sight to see". The voice began.
"My two daughters reunited for the second time in their lives. This can't be good!". He bellowed.
The figure emerged from the wall of bodyguards. He towered over Alex but Carter and him were the same height.
"I never thought you'd raise from the dead. But, here you are". Alex folded her arms.
"Baby girl, that had to get done. Things were rough back then". He defended.
"Interesting that you'd say that. Mom is in prison. And you didn't come forth to testify on her behalf. Who lets their wife go to jail for this kind of thing". Alex raised her voice.
Janai looked on expecting him to react to Alex's raised voice.
"Little girl, I don't know if your sister told you but I don't take to kindly to disrespect". He warned.
"Big man, I don't know if my sister told you, but I talk how I want when I want". Alex mocked.
"See now, she gets all this mouth from her Momma! But I just might have to break it down for her!". He snapped his fingers.
A guard brought forth a tablet. It had Alex's house on the screen with someone going inside.
Alex burst into laughter.
"What's so funny?". Mr. Winters frowned.
"You actually think I'd be dumb enough to leave my baby boy and my best friend at home. They're in a place where I can keep my eye on them". Alex smirked.
Her Father was stunned.
"You know what! I'm sick of all this bullshit! Let's just get down to business!". He yelled.
"We have no business. Hell, you don't even exist. So this is how it's going to go, you stay incognito and I'll live my life, and if you don't, I have enough evidence to bury you and your little body guards". Alex threatened.
Janai looked on in shock.
Alex turned on her heel, Carter's hand still in hers. She walked toward the car and Janai began to follow.
"Where the hell do you think your going?! Your job is done. Go back to your ruler and do his dirty work for him". Alex spat.
Janai stopped walking a hurt look on her face.
Alec continued on to the car.
"You can't walk away! You need me! That house you stay in, if it wasn't for me, you wouldn't be living in it!". Her Dad called.
Alex stopped walking and turned back to him.
"I stopped needing you a long time ago". She spat, a tinge of hurt in her voice.
She turned and kept walking to the car.
Alex got into her car and started it.
"That went...well". Alex sighed on the way to the hotel.
"Yeah". Carter agreed.
Alex knew her Dad wouldn't take her advice. He would return and with a big bang. But when he did, she would be ready.
