“She came up to me and told me she and Tyler were together….I mean how could she do that……She even showed me a diamond ring………Like how could she stoop to that level? Even if she was seeing him, she didn’t have to tell me.” Jane broke down crying. “She doesn’t love him either. She knows how much I loved Ty. She just wants revenge. She’s after his money.”
“Aww…poor you…but is it really why you committed suicide? There’s more to it…..isn’t it?” It was hard to believe a girl like Jane would commit suicide over such an issue. I knew I had seen only the tip of the iceberg yet. There was more to come.
Jane didn’t reply. “Oh Jane, you are like my sister. Not like Stacy though.” I tried to create humor. Failed attempt. “You got to tell me what’s happening in your life for me to help you. You have always been there for me. Let me be here for you. Please.”
Jane cracked finally. “I’m pregnant.”
“What?” Oh. My. God. That was unexpected.
“I found out about two months ago. Right after Ty and I broke up. I loved him with all my heart. I didn’t have the guts to tell Jake or Alex. I knew they’d tell me to abort it. But I want the baby. It’s a souvenir of our love. It’s the only piece of Ty left with me.”
I was too shocked to reply. I managed to ask, “Why didn’t you tell Tyler?”
“I didn’t think he would accept or even believe me. I was probably so afraid of rejection; I didn’t even want to try. And just yesterday I had decided to face him. I had heard he was in Vegas. But then Stacy came and ruined everything…”
“How could you do this to yourself Jane? Didn’t you even think about the baby? What happened to all the ‘be brave girl’?”
“I guess that was all a show to hide my insecurities. I’m just like any other girl deep down.” Jane confessed.
“Shit. The baby. I need to find out if it’s ok. I hope the doctor hasn’t discussed it with Jake yet. I’ll be right back.”
I ran as fast as I could to the doctor’s cabin. There was Jake, his back turned to me, screaming at the top of his voice at the doctor. Oh god. Was I too late?
“Are you freaking kidding with me, doc? You think my sister, Jane, is pregnant? How dare you even speak about her like that? Is this some sick joke? I will sue you.”
“But sir, let me explain……”
I couldn’t let him know. Not like this. Who knew? He could go and shoot Tyler down right now. I know how overprotective Jake and Alex got when it came to Jane. Jane was right. They would abort the baby. But who were they to decide? This had got to be Jane’s decision only.
