By the way, you might’ve noticed I’ve been changing up my cover up a lot pretty recently coz I had a lot of amazing people make some for me. I’m going to link all of them in the coming chapters. Let me know which one is your favorite.

PS- Next chapter is going to be an exciting one. Will reveal it after the book hits 50k reads. <3

“How dare you do that? Just let me get out of these ropes and I’ll show you what messing up with someone’s life means.” I growled. That was like a blow straight through my heart. I couldn’t believe I had spent all these days dying on the inside because of Jake’s filthy lies. But after everything he had done, this wasn’t much of a shock. I was surprised that Alex had believed him.

“Kill me, because trust me once I get out of these ropes, you are not going to survive.” I said through gritted teeth.

“Not so fast. Won’t you like to know where I have brought you?” He grinned.

“Like I even care.” I muttered.

“It’s Alex’s little house, the one he fled to after the ball. It’s the only place he can’t imagine I could take you to.”

What? How could Jake be so cruel? It felt like salt on my already bad sores. It would have been easier to die not knowing the truth. The images started playing in my head; the longing in Alex’s eyes. What if he never knows that I have always loved him and only him? What if the truth is buried along with my death? I couldn’t let that happen. I needed to find a way out of here.

I pretended to lie down unconscious, lifeless for the next few hours, so that Jake could relax. I could hear him drink up one bottle after another. Finally, when there was complete silence in the house and I could almost be sure he had either passed out after all the alcohol or left, I put my plan into action.

I desperately tugged, pulled and twisted my hands through the rope but nothing seemed to work. But I was not ready to give up. I prayed to God.Just help me this once. I pulled once real hard with all my strength, and with a strong jerk the knot was loosened. I almost fell off the bed. I quickly untied my blindfold and my legs. I didn’t even care to wait another second and ran straight out of the room, only to bump into someone.

I screamed and looked up. It was Alex. Phew.

“Katy? Are you alright?” He wrapped his arms around me. I pushed him back. Although he wasn’t guilty in all this, he had failed me. He told me he’d always find his way back to me. But he didn’t. My head was so stuffed up I had lost all power to reason out. I was still a bit mad at him.

Suddenly there was a gunshot which directly hit the lights above and there was complete darkness everywhere. I hadn’t realized that my shriek had probably woken Jake up. And I also realized Jake had a gun and we were unarmed. He was stronger than us in that confined space.

Alex whispered to me.  “I need to get you out of here. It’s my fight.”

“No. Jake will have to take us both down if he wants to win.”

“Pretty Katy, little Katy, where are you?” Jake sang along the corridor. We had to keep quiet as we knew Jake would aim at any sound.

“I’m going to teach him his lesson today.” Alex began to step out, into the center of the room, to acknowledge his presence and make himself visible. I pushed him a corner.
“Are you crazy? How can you even think of doing that? I can’t think of losing you.” I was nearly crying.

“So you still love me?” Alex asked me, expectantly.

“I didn’t say that. It’s just…” I was out of words now. I didn’t want to appear weak in front of him. You need to get a grip on your emotions girl. I told myself and lied, “I don’t want to be responsible for anyone’s death here.” I tried to sound as rough and cold as I could. “Just do whatever I say for the last time. I won’t ask anything from you ever again. We have the element of surprise here. Jake doesn’t know you’re here. I’ll go and confront Jake while you attack him from behind.”

“No.” There was a sudden authority in his voice. “I won’t put you into danger. I’ll confront him and you take his gun away.”

It was useless to argue, and I didn’t want to waste anymore time. So I nodded. As Alex stepped out, I made my way to the other side of the room, crouching. I picked up a club and hit on Jake’s head. He fell down unconscious. We called 911 and after we narrated the whole story to the cops, they luckily believed us and arrested Jake. After all the cars left, Alex and I were left alone at the crime scene.

What will happen when Alex and Katy confront each other? Will they sort out their differences or part ways? Find out in the next chapter!
