This chapter is dedicated to @MiyaRenee23 for being an awesome person and supporting my work. Thank you!

I pushed him to see it was Jake. “What the hell?” I screamed. Alex turned on the lights.

“Katy?” Alex stood there, frozen.

“This is not what it looks like…..” I tried to explain but Jake cut me off. “Katy, how much longer will you hide the truth? Why don’t you tell my brother you are sick of his lame job? Bro, yesterday she met me at the bar. I was so shocked to see her dressed as a waitress. She cried and told me how much she regretted breaking up with me. What have you given her after all? This low standard life? We were just planning on telling you about our patch up.”

Alex clenched his fists. “Katy? Is it true? Were you working at the bar?”

“Yes.” I bowed my head in shame. “But apart from that, nothing was true.”

Alex furiously marched towards me. He raised his hand to hit. Jake grinned and I flinched. I closed my eyes.

I heard the sound of the slap but felt nothing. I looked up to see that the slap had landed on Jake’s cheeks. He cursed.

“Get the hell out of here before I kill you.” Alex shouted.

“Alex you don’t know this girl………….” Jake spoke.

“I know her better than you do. And I know you too. I know your cheap tricks. You think I’d trust you over Katy? She is the one who has stood by me. Even if she lied about working at the bar, she must’ve had a reason. Get out now before you do something you’ll regret.”

Jake stormed out of the room, crashing a flower vase on the way.

I broke into uncontrollable tears. “How? How can you trust me after all this? How can you be so good?”

He sat beside me on the floor and rested my head on his shoulder. “You underestimate my love. I love you and my love tells me you cannot do that to me. Sometimes you just know. Your heart tells you what’s right.”

I kissed him. “I’m sorry I lied to you about the bar. It just seemed to be the only option at the time.”

“Love, we are in this together. We are a team. Don’t take all our problems on yourself. We will work it out together, no matter what. Promise me, no working at the bar and no more secrets.”

I nodded and hugged him. I felt like a big burden had been lifted off my shoulders. With the truth out, I no more felt guilty. Jake had no power now. He couldn’t do anything to break us now.

I rose up, but he pulled me by the hand.

“Wait, I’ve got something I’ve been meaning to say to you for a while.”

I stood there, speechless. I had no idea what this was leading to.

He went down upon his knees and pulled out a small ring from his pocket.

“Katherine Marie Hayden, would you do me the honor of spending your rest of your life with me? Would you accept my love and be mine forever? I don’t promise we won’t have fights. But what I promise is no matter what, I’ll always find my way back to you. My love for you will never change. Fifty years from now, when I look back, I don’t want to regret not doing this. There is no one else in the world I’d ever want to be with.”

I looked at him with eyes full of tears. I got down on my knees and hugged him. “Yes.” I whispered into his ears.

Is this happily ever after for Alex and Katy? Will Jake give up or seek vengeance?
