Carl wrung his hands nervously as he waited for his friends to arrive at the lake. It was a beautiful sunny day out, and since the lake was surrounded by trees hopefully no one else would see.
Carl is what you could call...a size shifter. If he wants to, he can look like a normal human. But any other time he could be as tall as fifty feet, to as small as five inches. And now he was finally showing the few friends he trusts what he truly is. The giant part at least.
"Hey, Carl!" A feminine voice called as a blond haired, brown eyed girl emerged from the trees with a wide smile. "I was glad you invited me! Terry messaged he group chat and said he'll be here soon! I'm really excited to see what you wanted to show us."
He could only manage a meek smile. He's more worried than excited. What if they turn to hate him? What if they tell everyone what he is and everyone, including his foster parents, try to hurt or even kill him? His heart raced at the thought. "Y-Yeah...Terry might be too." He stuttered out.
"Oh, I know he is!" She laughed and ran over, hugging her friend tightly.
It wasn't long before a shaggy haired teenager walked through the tree, pulling sticks and leaves from his hair. "Hey, I made it! I fell into some weird hole." He said with an embarrassed laugh.
Carl, however, turned pale. That 'strange hole' was his footprint from the night before when it had been muddy and raining. "H-Hey Terry. I'm glad you both could make it."
"Dude, are you okay? You look pale, are you sick?" Terry walked over, placing a gentle hand on his friends, almost brothers, shoulder.
"Step back. What I want to show you is kinda...kinda weird. And if you get scared, I don't blame you." Carl lowered his head and sunk to his knees, making himself as small as possible when every fiber in his body began to tingle. He could feel his muscles contracting, they began to feel stretched. He ignored the shocked and almost fearful gasp that came from McKenna. And he ignored Terry's surprised mumbling. Only when he opened his eyes was he able to see the horrified looks on his now tiny friend's faces.
"Whoa...dude." Terry breathed out, staring up into Carl's giant blue eyes. "Just...dude."
"I knew it...you both hate me now, don't you?" Carl whispered, lowering his head sadly as he fought to keep tears back.
"Carl, why would hate you?!" McKenna exclaimed, almost angrily at what the giant boy was saying. "This is amazing! You're like...a giant!"
"That's exactly what he is you doof." Terry playfully shoved her before looking back up to Carl. "You know how awesome you'd be on the Baseball team?! O-Or what is it like?! Can you see above the clouds if you stand?!"
"Or are you able to see all of our town?!" Mckenna laughed.
Carl looked back and forth between them before a wide smile broke across his face. "No, I can't see above the clouds, I'm not that tall. And almost McKenna. I probably have to wait until my growth spurt."
"Looks like you already had one," Terry responded with a sarcastic laugh. "Oh, oh pick me up! I want to see what Carl sees! I want to know what..what 24/7 Carl vision could be like!"
As Carl lifted both of his friends into his palms, he couldn't help but ask the question that was plaguing his mind. "Why are you so calm? A-Aren't you afraid of me?"
"Carl, it's just your size that changed. Not you. You're a wonderful guy, and we know you'd never hurt us. No matter what size."
"Yeah, dude! You're awesome, like my brother! And this just makes you one hundred times cooler! But I bet not everyone would think that, so we'll keep it a secret." Terry smiles.
"You guys are the absolute best," Carl said with a smile as he carefully laid on his back, placing the humans on his chest.
All three laid back, relaxing in the bright sunshine. Taking in what just happened in such a short amount of time.
