"Alright, we're going to take this one step at a time Nick. It's been months since you've been able to walk, so we're not going to rush anything." Lani spoke in as gentle a voice he could muster, smiling at the being in his palm that was impatiently and childishly bouncing.
Nick smiled at the human above him and laughed. "You try being forced to rest for months. I want to get on my feet Lani, come on."
Rolling his eyes with a soft smile, the human teen knelt to the ground and shifted his hand so Nick could sit on the edge of his fingers. "If it hurts too much tell me. We might just have to wait a few more days or weeks. I don't want you to get worse."
"Yeah, yeah, sure." Nick gauged the distance to the floor and slowly slid his good leg until his bare foot touched the ground. Once he had a good position, he lowered his other one. He began to put some of his weight on the wounded leg, a sharp pain shooting through the limb but he didn't stop.
Lani watched his little friend with worried eyes, but he seemed to be doing okay so far. The small being suddenly stumbled, falling forward but he was ready. His fingers slid under him, keeping him from hitting the floor. "Hey, take it easy. Wanna try again?" Still, with a gentle smile, Lani shifted Nick in his palm to give him a better spot.
Nick nodded confidently, again pushing his feet to the floor. The pain wasn't as bad the second time. It had to just be hurting from being numb after not using it for so long. Once he got a few feet from Lani, he began to jog. Then run.
A wide smile spread across his face and he turned to look at the human he considers his savior. "Thank you so much! For everything, Lani!"
Lani smiled, though it soon turned into a sad one as he moved his gaze to his hands. "A deal is a deal. You can go back in the walls, and move away like you want."
Now it was Nick's smile's turn to fade. "Lani, I...I had actually been meaning to talk to you about that. I don't want to be a burden, but can I please stay out here? With you? Your mom saw me before, she was okay with me, and I like having a friend." Nick slowly began to approach the large male.
Lani's dark green eyes lit up as he looked down at the small boy his age. "Really? Do you really want to?"
They'd grown rather attached to each other fairly quickly, and now neither of the two wanted to separate just yet.
Nick simply nodded his tiny head and scrambled onto the nearby hand. "I really do."
Lani was gentle as he pressed Nick into his chest, giving the best hug he could despite the size difference. "Thank you."
Nick chuckled lightly, thinking to how much the human has helped him since he got him out of the trap. "No, thank you."
