Aaron woke up that morning feeling weak and tired, his head throbbing and stomach churning with nausea. "Honey?" he whispered with a soft groan, rolling over to face his giantess wife but the woman was already gone. "Right...she had work."
Starting to push himself upright, he nearly jumped out of his skin when his eleven-year-old adopted daughter ran into the room, smiling widely at him. He stood at half her height if they were side by side, but even when they adopted her three years ago she was always very gentle and helped him when he needed it.
"Daddy, today's the day, remember?! You promised we'd go and see the movie I wanted to see!" Helen squealed excitedly, glad to see her dad already up and wrapped her arms around him to give him a tight hug. But her smile started to fade when he cringed in pain and coughed.
"Oh, H-Helen...I'm sorry." Aaron frowned deeply and returned the hug. That's right, he'd promised her that they'd go to the theater that was only a few blocks away. His chest tightened and he looked into her excited blue eyes. "I can't. I-I know I said I promised, but daddy really doesn't f-feel well today."
Helen's face fell and she reached out a few of her fingers, gently laying them overtop of her father's forehead. "You do feel warm. Should I call mommy? Is it a 'mergency?"
"No, no don't bother your mother." Aaron groaned and laid on his back, breaking into a harsh coughing fit and covering his mouth so he didn't spread the germs everywhere.
Helen scowled and looked at the clock on the wall. Her mom wouldn't be home for another four hours. She was certainly disappointed they couldn't go today, but she knew that her dad needed to get better too.
The young girl was careful as she lifted him from his bed and cradled him in her arms. She then carried him out of the bedroom and to the living room couch, being as gentle as she could. Even his arms were warm against her own skin.
Aaron was certainly confused at what was going on and shifted from the uncomfortable heat his daughter gave off. Then he was laid out on the couch with the remote being set right next to him for the T.V. Then, he watched Helen flee the room to the kitchen just to the left.
He doesn't know what the heck is going on. He knows when Helen is sick, she lays out on the couch and watches T.V. most of the day, munching on saltine crackers that won't upset her stomach any more than it already is.
He could hear the beeping of the microwave in the kitchen and was ready to get up when Helen came back in with a bowl of steaming something. He could smell chicken noodle soup, most likely from a can but he wouldn't complain.
"Here you go, daddy!" Helen smiled proudly and sat on the couch near her dad and set the bowl carefully in his lap. But then lifted it again when he winced in pain. "I'm sorry! I forgot that you were more sensitive!" Her smile fell and instead she held the bowl in her own hands, deciding to keep it until it cools enough for him to handle.
Aaron was deeply touched by his daughter's actions and reached a small hand out, placing it gently on one of hers. "Don't be sorry sweetheart, it's very sweet of you." With a weak smile, he took the heavy bowl from her hands and set it in his lap. It may have been hot, but he could handle it.
Helen's proud smile returned and she sat close to her father, keeping a close watch to make sure he didn't maybe drop the bowl and burn himself like he did last year. He had tried to help her mom make dinner and wound up dropping scalding water on his legs. She watched him use the spoon to eat the soup, needing to use two hands to keep the spoon perfectly steady as he ate. She even made sure not to fill the bowl all the way so it wasn't too heavy for Aaron either.
After finishing the soup, Aaron set the bowl down and laid on his back on the couch, looking up at his daughter that smiled down at him. "Thank you, sweetie."
"You're welcome, daddy. Mommy will be home later, is it okay if I watch a movie here with you instead?" Helen asked in a soft voice, getting the idea he had a bit of a headache earlier.
"That sounds fine hon, go right ahead," Aaron said quietly, cringing when a sharp pain ripped through his head again, making it throb in pain.
Helen decided against a movie if he had a headache and stood from the couch. "The movie can wait...I think I'm just going to go color for a little bit. Okay?"
Surprised at her consideration, Aaron only smiled and rolled onto his side, watching the eleven-year-old walk away. She's such a good kid.
Sorry this is rushed, I'm not feeling very good today...or the past four days.
