Selena’s POV:
“She’s not my sister! She’s my daughter!” I heard Sophia finally yell to my mom. My mom’s face got so pale and her jaw dropped.
“W-what?” my mom stuttered.
“She’s not my sister and she’s not your daughter!” Sophia cried. “She’s your granddaughter!”
My mom put her hand over her mouth in disbelief and began to cry. I walked over to Sophia to comfort her because she was crying too and I knew how hard it was for her to finally tell my mom.
“When I was 12, my foster dad raped me, again, but this time I ended up pregnant.” Sophia explained to my mom, holding on to my hand as she laid in her bed. “That’s when Ms. Scott found out and had me move back to the foster and adoption home with her. She didn’t let me go to school so nobody would find out and I got home schooled. Nobody knew about me being pregnant except for Ms. Scott, my teacher, and the doctor. Once Lily was born, Ms. Scott made me go to another foster home and leave Lily there with her. She promised me she wouldn’t put Lily up for adoption if I never said anything to anybody. It killed me leaving Lily there alone without me but I had to listen to her or she would take Lily away from me forever. I left for a couple of months but when I threatened to tell the police that I was being raped again by my new foster dad, she agreed to let me go back to the foster and adoption home with Lily.” she explained.
My mom walked slowly towards us, crying, and sat down on the bed and help Sophia’s hand. “I’m so sorry baby,” my mom cried hugging Sophia for a couple of minutes while both of them cried together.
“Sophia,” I interrupted, “Where does Lily think her parents are at?” I asked.
She turned to me and said, “She thinks they died in an accident when she was a baby. It hurt me every single night when Lily would cry at night because she never got to meet her mommy and daddy. I just laid there with her in bed trying to calm her down but I could never tell her the thing that I wanted to tell her the most.” she cried.
“Would you like to tell her now?” my mom asked her. “I thought about it for a while now mom but I just can’t. I can’t be a great mom like how you are to her. I can’t provide the things that she needs like you do. As much as it hurts me not being able to be the mom that Lily deserves, I can’t just ruin her whole life. Maybe once she’s older, we can explain it to her, but right now I think you need to be her mom.” Sophia cried.
“You are an incredible person, you know that?” my mom told her grabbing Sophia’s hands and kissing her forehead. “And once you’re ready, you are going to be an incredible mother.”
“Thank you,” Sophia said wiping the tears off of her face.
“Sel, do you think you can put some makeup on my eye so Lily can come and see me?” she asked. “Of course,” I told her, “Let me go grab my makeup from my room.” I told her then walking out of her room. “Umm Brian, I think you should go in there,” I told him, “Sophia has something to tell you.”
“Okay, thanks Sel,” he told me walking into Sophia’s room.
“Can I see Soph now?” Lily asked me.
“In a little bit ok? She needs to get ready.” I told her.
“Ready for what? She hasn’t gotten out of her room in a long time?” Lily asked confused.
“She needs to get ready to see you silly” I told her while I picked her up. “She wants to look pretty for you,” I continued.
“Soph always looks pretty!” she giggled then ran off to go play.
I walked upstairs to my room to get my makeup but decided to call Justin first.
Justin’s POV:
“Hey baby what are you doing?” Selena asked me as I picked up the phone.
“Rehearsing for the show babe, but I’m taking a break right now. What’s up beautiful?” I asked her.
“Well some pretty big things are happening here right now,” Selena told me.
“What do you mean?” I asked confused, “is everything ok?”
“Everything is fine babe, it’s just, Sophia told us some pretty big news right now,” she said, “ don’t say anything please.”
“Of course I won’t say anything, what is it?” I asked.
“Well,” she paused, “Lily is actually Sophia’s daughter,” she told me.
I was so shocked. “What?!” I asked confused. “How?”
“When she was 12, she got raped again my her foster dad, but that time, she got pregnant and yeah,” she explained.
“Does Lily know?” I asked her.
“No, we’re not telling her. At least not yet anyway,” she said.
“I have to go back to rehearsals babe, try and make Sophia feel better as soon as possible because I want you guys to come to my concert. I love you baby.” I told her.
“I’ll try babe and I love you too. Bye.” she said and then hung up.
Selena’s POV:
I grabbed my makeup bag and headed to Sophia’s room. I knocked before going in to make sure that they had finished telling Brian everything. “Come in,” I heard and then opened the door. Brian had looked like he had been crying also. He gave Sophia a kiss on her head before walking out of the room. “I’m gonna go check on Lily, ok?” my mom asked Sophia.
“Ok mom,” she replied before my mom also walked out of the room. I walked over to her bed and sat down next to her, taking out my makeup.
“Please be gentle,” Sophia laughed. I missed hearing her laugh and seeing her smile. “I will,” I giggled and then began doing her makeup.
“Can you tell me how it was like?” I asked Sophia while I did her makeup.
“What what was like?” she asked back.
“Having Lily,” I told her, hoping that she would want to tell me.
“It was the most painful thing I’ve ever been through,” she explained, “considering I was 12 and all. That night felt like a dream. Everything was a blur. I remember my water breaking, and those horrible contractions. I remember the nurse and the doctor talking gibberish to me about all the things that they were going to do. I was so scared but when I heard Lily’s cry, this overwhelming feeling just came to me. I guess even though I was only twelve, my motherly instinct just kicked in. Having her in my arms was the most amazing feeling ever. You never think you can have so much love to give to another person until you have a child. It honestly was the most amazing feeling that I had ever felt before.” she told me.
“That sounds pretty amazing,” I told her. “I hope one day, I can experience that feeling too,” I admitted to her.
“Just make sure your ready Sel,” she said. “You may be the older sister, but please experience everything that life has to offer you before you start a new chapter in your life.” she told me.
“I will, I promise,” I told her sticking out my pinky to her and made a pinky promise. “Ok you are ready,” I told her putting my makeup away. I gave her a mirror so she could see herself.
“It’s perfect. Thanks Sel.” she said. “Can you call Lily in here now. I’m dying to see her.”
“Of course,” I told her and then called out to Lily. Lily ran to me when she heard me calling her.
“You can see Soph now. “ I told her opening the door to Sophia’s room. Lily jumped into Sophia arms and began laughing.
I stood there at the door watching Sophia and Lily together. I saw that shine in Sophia’s eyes got when she saw Lily. To have sacrificed the most important thing in her life has had to be one of the most amazing thing that Sophia had to do for the love of her daughter. I hope that one day I will be able to experience that feeling that Sophia had told me about motherhood.
