"And finally add two teaspoons of vanilla extract. One is enough if you don't like the cake smells too much."

Gemma smiled while she hearing Alfred spoke. He was demonstrating his skill to make a vanilla cake to her. Beside, Gemma had nothing to do that day since it's Sunday.
That day was actually her holiday but Geer appeared in front of her door at six in the morning and ruined her day.
He needed Gemma to deliver his breads to the castle because he couldn't. It's his job to deliver it on Sunday.
Gemma actually didn't want to but he begged so much and she felt pity for him.
He's going to a date with Nina anyway and Gemma thought it's the time to Nina to be softened a little bit to Geer.
Well, Nina was the first reason she wanted to help him. The second was, Arka had accepted a box of cinnamon rolls Geer brought for them without her permission. So Gemma had no choice than getting up from her warm bed and walked to the castle.

"Can you make another flavor? Or you only can do Vanilla?" Gemma asked.

Alfred narrowed his eyes at her. "Excuse me?" He said with a high pitch. "That is so offending, young lady. Of course I can make another flavor but Vanilla is Prince Kegan's favorite."

Gemma nodded in understanding. While Alfred continued his work, Gemma couldn't help herself from thinking about the Prince.

"Alfred!" She called him. "How long have you been working here?"

Alfred stopped stirring the dough and used his fingers to count. "Hm..twenty five years. Why?"

"Then you must be know why Kegan doesn't want to leave the castle. Can you tell me?" She said, leaned her elbows against the counter.

Alfred sighed deeply. Suddenly his desire to make the cake was gone. He put the bowl the the side and sat on the high stool.
"It's been a long time. I don't know what story you people have about Prince Kegan. But I assure you, he is a good person. Telling you this, Gemma Maynhard, can cause me to be fired but, I think you have to know. I see how he looks so glad every time you both talk and I feel so grateful you become a great listener."

Gemma just shrugged her shoulders as respond. Since she met the Prince, Kegan would come down from his chamber every time she came.
They never talked too long but Gemma found everything he told to her was interesting.

"Tell me then." She said.

Alfred looked around him carefully before he leaned toward Gemma.
"The truth, Prince Kegan always thought he is the reason of the King's death."

"The king?"

"Sshhhh!!!" Alfred hissed in panic, looking around him again. "Yes, Seven years ago, when The King brought Prince Kegan outside to look over the kingdom. A group of assassin attacked their convoy. Instead targeting the King, they wanted the Prince. The main goal was clear. To leave Tara without heir. One of them almost made it to take Prince Kegan but the King claimed him back. I didn't know what's going on to be exactly but the guard who lived from the attack said Prince Kegan was being knockout. He lost against one of the assassin. When he wanted to kill him, The King used his own body to protect his son."

"Just like my mom." Gemma whispered lowly.

"What?" Alfred asked, didn't hear what Gemma said.

Gemma quickly shook her head. "Nothing. So, what happened after that?"
