War.

The word never crossed Kegan's mind. He even had no bravery to imagine how it was.
But today, in Edur. Kegan felt one.

In the battlefield.

A place where everything he got from his training was now just sentences of theories.
In this kind of situation, there's only you, skill, opportunity and luck.

Yes, luck was matter.

"My King!!!! Get down!!!!"

Kegan felt a hard pull from his right and suddenly, he found himself kneeled under a shield with one of his guard beside him.
The guard groaned a bit when the rain of arrows showered them from above, hit his shield.

Finally the archers are coming. Kegan said inside his heart.
This lines of men of Aiyaz that Kegan worried the most.

Since he and his men landed their feet in the edge of the dock of Edur, the war had begun. Aiyaz really didn't want to waste time to kill him.

While shielding under the thick metal, Kegan controlled his breath. It's been a while since he had time just to enjoy the air.
He lost track how many enemies he had killed. He couldn't remember how many times his sword had stabbed or beheaded these people.

It's a lot.

A choked sound from his other side made Kegan looked up from the ground. It hurt him so much when he saw one of his men dropped to the ground.
Dead.
The thump from the body when it hitting the ground was so loud in Kegan's ears, it bet the other shouts and yells around him.
Blood flew from the man's mouth and his eyes no longer reflected the light.
They're dull and empty with a white arrow stood perfectly in the middle of chest.

Kegan tightened his grip around his sword.
He knew death was the risk of a war. He already prepared his mind for it. But the reality hit him harder.

Kegan clenched his jaw. His palm gripped his sword so hard until it's hurt.
For every man died in this place, he told himself that he had to get the victory.

"Kegan!!"

The voice startled Kegan from his thought and he saw Sekt kneeled on his right side, a few feet from him. Sekt also protecting himself with his own shield. He looked so pissed.

"Where's Zuriel???" Sekt shouted. "He and his men supposed to take care of the archers."

Kegan wanted to shout out the line 'I don't know' to the air but he knew it would break his men spirit.

"He will be here soon. Just hang on!!!!"

Sekt looked at Kegan skeptically. Everything inside Kegan's mind right now, Sekt knew.
He really never learned that he cannot say lie to Sekt.
They were thinking the same thing.

Maybe Zuriel had been caught.

But Sekt was wise enough to know why Kegan didn't say it out loud.
So he just nodded his head when another man fell to the ground beside him.

The arrows kept coming without taking a break. After a wave of arrows hit their shields, just a few seconds later, another wave came.

Kegan looked so miserable seeing more people fell just because the arrows. It made him feel so useless just to kneel there without doing anything to save his army.
It didn't miss from his sight when the white bright snow slowly turned to crimson red.
The blood had poured to the ground and until one of them win the war, the red liquid wouldn't stop flowing.
This area, Edur, soon would be covered in red.
