Gemma panted hard, forcefully opened her eyes when nightmare came back to her sleep.
She closed her mouth with her palm, silenced the desperation whimpers she made. Her eyes wildly moved around their shells.
When she finally remembered where she was, Gemma sighed in relieve.
She was safe. She was in the chamber inside the castle. Not at the kitchen with her father, with his hand holding a bloody knife. Her hands trembled from fear and she moved them up, ran her fingers through her hair, made her ginger messier.
Her hair was wet and sweat also ruined her shirt.Gemma thought she would never be able to go back to sleep now. She was afraid the bad dream would return. Beside, the horizon had showed her golden line. The sun was going to rise.
People said the sunrise and sunset were the most magical moment to see. Maybe today was the day for her to prove it. So, Gemma pushed herself from the bed and walked toward the window. She hoped everything on the sky could help her from forgetting her cruel father figure.
Living in the city of light, where Tara was brightened by the sun for the whole year, Gemma never really cared about the sunrise or sunset before.
She was too busy working for her life and seeing those moments was the last thing she wanted to do on her list. She felt her feet were so heavy and she still struggled to breath normally but she made it to reach the window.
Gemma placed her palms on the cold surface of the glass and stared outside, directly at the golden line.
It was perfect.
Slowly but sure, the golden line was mixed with orange and yellow, and the shape of the sun began to appear.
She didn't move from her spot until the sun completely finished the process to reveal itself.Gemma placed her forehead on the glass, let the warmth filled her as her mind wondered what would happen to her next.
She'd be judged for sure. Not only for what Arka did but for everything she did.
She shivered a bit now. No matter how warm the sun, her clothes was extremely wet from her sweat. She jumped when her room door was opened. Two people rushed in and it's obvious they're having argument.
"Mother, I've told you I can hand-"
"No, Kegan!" Queen Aira mumbled. "You can handle another thing but not this."
Gemma gasped finding Queen Aira on her room. The Queen's actually, she just borrowed it.
The middle aged lady stopped a few feet from her and she stared at Gemma sharply."Lord Arnev just asked me a permission to let a ship from Veron come. He said King Nauta himself is there." Queen Aira said.
Gemma didn't say anything but she clenched and unclenched her palms nervously. Her fate wouldn't be good.
"I've heard what you've done Gemma Maynhard, and everything your brother did. You both killed my people." The Queen added. "Are you going to deny it?"
Gemma glanced a bit at Kegan and he was looking at her worriedly.
She gulped a bit then shook her head. "No." She whispered hoarsely.Queen Aira clenched her jaw and lifted up her chin. "You know why King Nauta come, right? He wants the killer. But since your brother is not here, you're going to replace his position. King Nauta won't make it easy."
"I know." Gemma replied flatly.
The Queen stared at her in confusion even Gemma wondered why she didn't feel scared about it. She's nervous, yes but not afraid.
Maybe deep in her heart, she knew she had to pay for every blood she dropped with her hands.
