Happy Reading

--------------

It's over.

Finally the nightmare was done.

The war was over and he had won.

But somehow, Kegan wasn't happy for his victory.

As he walked out of the castle. His heart was aching so much seeing the number of men dying in the battlefield.
This place was in total mess. Kegan saw red everywhere and the smell of blood filled his nose and mouth. It would stay there for a while now.
They had contaminated the place. It would take a while to wipe the bad memory from this land.

Aiyaz's men had surrender and they were locked in jail, waited to be judged.
The rest of Kegan's army and the rebels now were working to move the dead bodies. They would have a proper way to honor them.

A proof of his victory still lied in the front of the front gate.
Aiyaz's head in the end of a spear. It would be there for a while now.

Kegan walked weakly between the dead bodies.
"You're a hero." Kegan would whispered when he passed them.
"You will be remembered."
"I'm nothing without you."

He mumbled the sentences over and over again. Sometimes he would kneeled and wiped his hand to their pale faces, closed their eyes properly. He kept doing it until his eyes fell to one specific body.

He remembered him.
Liam.
The man who saved him earlier.

Kegan closed his eyes tightly to hold the tears sprung on his eyes.
With his own hands, Kegan picked up Liam's body and brought him to the place where they're going to burn all of them.

When Kegan got closer to the pile of bodies, someone came closer and took the body from him.
Kegan let the soldier took Liam as his eyes fell to the stiff bodies in front of him.

There were too many of them.

He brought home a victory but at the same time, he would bring griefs as well.
He wondered how their families would be reacted about this.
Could they take it well?
Would they blam him for this?

Probably.

Kegan moved his gaze from the pile when he saw more people came. They too brought dead bodies.

Zuriel brought Neo's body and Arnev and Lir brought Okan while Han was in Kay's arms. His cheeks were filled with tears and Kay wasn't embarrass to show how sad he was.

Arnev lied Okan gently on the pile. When Kay had placed Han beside Okan, Arnev prayed for his friends. Lir and Kay lowered their head, did the same thing.

Kegan saw Zuriel placed Neo's hands above his stomach neatly.
He gave Kegan a sad smile before he walked away. Probably to collect more bodies.

But Kegan noticed Arnev was walking toward him.
He had no mood to talk but he didn't tell him that. He realized Arnev had helped him. A lot.

Arnev didn't say anything for a while when he stopped a few feet from Kegan. Just like the King of Tara, he also felt the grief. He lost his people too. But he knew what Kegan's sorrow was greater than his. He just lost hundreds. He lost half of his men.
There's nothing he could say to fix that.

Arnev took a deep breath. He intentionally didn't want to stare him directly.
"Arka is dying." He finally said. "The healer said he won't make it. I think you have to know."

Kegan didn't give any comments but he nodded his head and Arnev left him with his mind.

Another death.
