"Why Kegan?"
The question passed Arnev's lips before he could hold it.
Gemma lifted up her gaze from her finger. She's quite surprised Arnev hadn't sleep yet. Around them, the other seemed had no problem to give up to the slumber.
She also surprised Arnev talked to her again. After their last conversation a few days ago, he stopped making a word at her.
She knew why and she felt guilty about it."I thought you're sleeping." Gemma said.
"No, I'm not. Can you answer my question now?" Arnev pushed. He looked so serious.
Gemma sighed deeply. "Why do you want to know?"
"Really, Gemma? You asked me about that? Isn't it obvious to you that both Kegan and I like you?" Arnev said. His temper easily lit up.
"We both have the same chance. I maybe disappointed by your decision but I will respect that. At least tell me what makes him better in your eyes."Gemma looked around her anxiously. She didn't want the others heard the conversation. It wasn't a topic she liked to discuss about.
Why he couldn't just accept that Gemma chose Kegan over him?
Did he really need an explanation about why Gemma liked Kegan more??
Wasn't it just add more disappointment for him?
But as always, she never understand how males used their brain."No one is better, Arnev." Gemma finally spoke. "None of you better than another. You both are good men. You both deserve better. In fact, I never thought about spending my life with someone else. My goal here is Arka. To bring my brother back. But when I know what kind of problem Kegan has to solve..." She shook her head gently. "I don't know...I don't want him to face it alone. There's something inside me screaming loudly, tells me that I can't let him handle this by himself. I need to be on his side, fight it with him."
Arnev shut his mouth into a line. He thought by hearing her explanation he would feel better. He thought he could take the bitter reality. But it got worse.
Maybe he just had to accept it just like she said. But it's not that simple, wasn't it?
It wasn't his first time to be rejected by girls but this one....deep.
That's the only word Arnev could find inside his head. When he heard himself that Gemma had chosen Kegan, Arnev felt like everything around him had turned into ashes. Nothing matter anymore. He kept telling himself that he heard it wrong. She didn't mean that. But she did.
And he couldn't grab her back. Kegan had taken her completely.
Arnev brought a hand to his chest and he felt like he wanted to squeeze his heart. Maybe it would reduce the pain a little bit.
He couldn't see the pain but it's unbearable.
Arnev thought the pain from sword was better than this one. At least, the wound was bleeding and he could take care of it. But could he take care of this one? It...hurt.Arnev sighed deeply, sadness clearly filled his face.
"Can you please take out my heart and stab it with something sharp?""Arnev...." Gemma replied with warning tone.
Arnev shrugged his shoulders a bit. "Sorry, but, I think it will make me feel better."
"No, it won't." Gemma quickly said. "It hurts me too seeing you like that. So, please, stop!"
