There was only a a couple of days left of school before Christmas vacation. I wasn't really looking forward to it because I would be stuck in the house all day, every day with my family. But I would get by like I always did.

Audrey hadn't come to school that day, Luke told me in first period that she was sick with the flu and wouldn't be back before the Christmas break. As for presents, I had gotten both Audrey and Luke a present. Why did I get Luke a present? Well, the idiot told her we were friends, so if I didn't get him a present also, it would be strange. So, I had my mom take me to a shop downtown and I picked them each a present out, not really sure what either of them would like. To be honest, I didn't care if Luke didn't like his but I wanted to make sure Audrey liked hers.

I was presently at lunch, poking around at the horrible mush they called food. I never ate at school, I waited until I got home. I could have just brought my lunch, but I didn't see the hassle in it. It was weird sitting at lunch alone, not having Audrey there to talk my ear off. She usually carried on the conversation while I listened.

"Hey," I looked up and saw Luke standing on the other side of the table, his tray of food in his hands and his bag in his back. He was wearing a plain white shirt, different than what he had been wearing that morning.

"Why did you change shirts?" I stared up at him with my brows furrowed, honestly waiting for him to sit down since that was what I assumed he was going to do.

Luke rolled his eyes and finally took a seat at the table, throwing his nag down beside him. "Hey, Luke." He did a mocking voice, actually sounding nothing like me.

"I don't sound like that." I scoffed.

"Yeah, you do." Luke laughed, picking up his bottle of water off his tray and opening it.

"Whatever, are you going to tell me why you changed your shirt?"

"Accident in chemistry." Luke shrugged as he took a sip of water.

"I don't even want to know what happened." I shook my head. I thought you were supposed to wear lab coats and goggles and stuff like that in chemistry to protect yourself, but Luke could find a way to do anything so I didn't question it. "Why aren't sitting with your other friends? Audrey isn't here." I knew I had seen Luke talking other people, even some in our first period. I didn't see why he would rather sit with me.

"Because I'm sitting with you." Luke said. I just stared at him, not exactly getting what he meant. "Oh," Luke said suddenly, causing me to jump a little in my seat. He reached down and fumbled around in his bag before pulling out a small circular box. It was dark blue and had a silver bow tied across it. Luke extended it out to me, and I took it hesitantly. "It's your Christmas present from me and Audrey."

"Thanks," I mumbled, taking the box from his grasp, "I didn't know we were giving them to each other today." I had Audrey and Luke's presents in my bag also, so that I wouldn't forget them at home, but I didn't know exactly what day we were exchanging gifts.

"Well, Audrey wanted to wait until the day before we got out for break, but it doesn't really matter." Luke shrugged again and took a bite out of his burger. He was being unusually nice again and I didn't like that. It was like he was bipolar or something. Though I knew he wasn't. I read somewhere that only like, three percent of people are actually bipolar and I doubted that Luke was in that percentage. I had a feeling it was just his whole mind game, it was how he messed with people's heads.

I bent down and placed the gift in my bag, not really wanting to open it right now. I looked back up at Luke and he had his eyebrows raised.

"What?" I questioned.

"You're not gonna open it?"

"Not right now." I shook my head.

"Rude." Luke mumbled as he looked down at his food. I didn't see what the big deal was but I didn't want Luke to start acting like a jerk again so I bent back down tomy bag and pulled out his present. It was a rectangular box that was black, the only color the shop I got it from had, with a white bow on it.

"Here," I pushed the box across the table to Luke and he looked at it weirdly. I wanted to wait and give Audrey hers personally.

"What's that?" Luke squinted his eyes at me.

"A boat," I replied sarcastically, "It's your Christmas present, you idiot." Luke still stared at the box weirdly but picked it up  off the table.

"You got me a Christmas present?" Luke questioned as he examined the box, like it might blow up.

"Yes, now will open it?" I didn't see what the big deal was, it was just a present.

"You didn't open yours, so why should I open mine?" A small smile began to form on Luke's lips.

"Fine, don't open it. I don't care."

Luke sighed and began to untie the bow. "I'm only gonna open it because I'm not rude like you."

I scoffed. "Yes, you are." Luke shrugged, knowing I was right. He finally got the bow off and opened the box, to reveal his present.

"Seriously, Caroline?" Luke laughed as he saw what was inside, not even bothering to take it out of the box.

"I didn't know what else to get you." I shrugged. Luke finally lifted the small Batman figurine out of the box, looking at it closely. "I remember you saying at camp that you liked Batman, of course I didn't know if that was a lie also but-"

"I was telling the truth," Luke cut me off, placing the doll back into the box. He put the box into his bag and sat back up, looking back down at his food, "Speaking of camp, the guys are coming here for New Years."

"The guys?" I asked, my brows furrowed.

"Calum, Ashton, and Michael." Luke counted off on his fingers, "Jude can't come because his family is going on some trip." I was confused as to what Luke was talking about. I had just talked to Calum two nights before and he hadn't mentioned anything about coming to Utah. Why would they even come?

"Why are they coming here?"

"I asked them if they wanted to. I talked to them all and they agreed to come. I don't know." Luke fiddled with his fingers, as if he was hiding something.

The fact that Calum hadn't said anything to me still bugged me. Maybe he didn't want me to know he was coming, but why wouldn't he? He was probably my closest friend, even closer than Audrey.

"Oh, okay." I answered simply, not wanting to mention anything about Calum. I knew Calum didn't mention anything to Luke about us keeping in touch, he had told me. He had also told me that he had wanted to avoid Luke for a while but couldn't because Luke would wonder why he was keeping his distance.

Just then the bell rang, signaling for us to go to third period. Luke picked up his tray and bag and walked off without even a goodbye. I watched him as he walked away, acting as if I wasn't even at the table.

It was amazing how he could be nice one second and an asshole the next. He just further proved my perspective of him.
