"Hancock is such a horrible superhero," I shook my head in disapproval as I watched Will Smith fly across the television screen, "He only makes things worse." Luke and I were currently in his room, watching the movie 'Hancock'. After Luke begging for about ten minutes wanting to watch it, I finally gave in. I actually wanted to go out and do something, but Luke insisted on staying in for the day.
"Huh?" Luke shifted his gaze from my hand, that he had been playing with for a while, "Oh, yeah, he's a horrible superhero." I knew by the sound of his voice that he wasn't actually listening to what I was saying.
I sighed heavily, peering over at Luke, "Are you even watching the movie?" He looked up at me again, continuing to rub my palm gently with his finger.
Luke chuckled softly and shook his head, "No."
"You wanted to watch the movie, and you're not even watching it?" I rolled my eyes, turning back to the television.
"I guess I got distracted," Luke shrugged the best he could considering that he was lying down, "I don't want to watch the movie anymore. Let's talk." Ever since Luke and I had sexual relations a couple of weeks before, he seemed to be more into talking than physical contact. I wasn't sure why, I figured that he didn't want me to think that he only wanted things to be physical.
"About what?" I picked up the remote control and paused the movie, giving Luke my full attention.
"Well, it's senior year. What are you going to do after you graduate?"
I shrugged, "I used to want to be a lawyer like my dad, but now not so much. I guess I don't really know what I want to do." I didn't even know if I wanted to go to college. I knew that was the best choice, but I didn't have the slightest idea of what I wanted to do with my life. "What about you?"
Luke shrugged as well, "Same here, except I wanted to be an accountant like my mom. I used to look up to her, you know? You would think I would look up to my dad, but I've never been really close to him. But my mom and I used to be close, before she changed," Luke licked his lips, "But I guess, I changed too."
"I'm sorry," I said quietly, watching Luke trace the lines on my hand.
"It's okay, some things happened to me and we all changed, really. But, I think we were all a little different before then, too."
"What kind of things happened to you?" I asked. I felt like Luke was talking about what Calum had told me, about the woman in the alley. I wanted Luke to be comfortable telling me about his past, I wouldn't judge him.
Luke sighed deeply, and lifted my hand to his lips, leaving a kiss on my palm. "I don't want to talk about it right now." I wasn't sure why Luke always brought up the subject, then told me that he didn't want to talk about it. I felt like Luke wanted to tell me, but at the same time he didn't.
I nodded, "Can I ask you something?"
Luke intertwined our fingers and sat up straight on the bed, his back against the headboard, "Sure," He nodded.
"What was going on between you and Kyle?" The question had been bugging me ever since I heard Kyle and Luke on the phone that one night. The two of them still hadn't said anything about it, but I knew it wasn't nothing like Luke had said.
Luke groaned, "I told you, Caroline. It's nothing, so don't worry about it."
"Well, if it's nothing, then why can't you tell me?"
"Do we really have to do this?" Luke stared at me blankly.
"Are you cheating on me?"
"What? No, why would you think that?" Luke almost yelled, pulling his hand away from mine.
