Warmth.
That was one of the things I felt as I slowly drifted into consciousness. The other was Luke's arms wrapped tightly around me and his face buried in my hair, as I had shifted in my sleep and my back was now pressed to his front. I wasn't sure what time it was, but it was already daylight out and I knew my parents were going to freak out when they found out I wasn't home.
I reached down and grasped Luke's hand to move it, but was startled when I heard him speak.
"Oh, I didn't know you were awake." I turned around to see that Luke was wide awake. His eyes did look rather droopy, though and I figured that he hadn't gotten much sleep.
"What time is it?" I mumbled. Luke still hadn't removed his arms from around me, but I honestly didn't mind. I missed being close to him, even after everything he had done.
"Around nine-thirty," Luke anwered. I instantly untangled myself from him and stood from the bed, running my finger through my knotted hair. Luke sat up in the bed and peered at me. "What are you doing?"
"I have to get home," I told him. My parents were going to kill me and I had suspected that my mom had called me a million times, but I wasn't about to check my phone at the moment. I would just deal with them when I got home.
"I can drive you home if you want." Luke proposed as he climbed off the bed as well. I shook my head.
"No, it's fine." I didn't want to spend anymore time with Luke. It was already bad enough that I had spent the night, and although I was glad I had helped him the night before, I couldn't be around him any longer.
"Actually, it's not fine, I'm driving you home." Luke grabbed his keys off his dresser and walked over to the door, waiting patiently for me. I honestly didn't even care about arguing with him, I was still tired and Luke wasn't even worth it. So, I followed him out to his car and got in, neither one of us saying a word to the other.
It felt weird to be in Luke's car again, just the two of us. It almost felt as if nothing had changed, but that wasn't true. Everything was different, aside from the fact that I still loved Luke. I really wanted this all to just be a dream, I wanted everything to go back to the way it used to be. I wanted Luke back, and this time I wanted him to want me too. But I knew that nothing was going to change, the two of us would be across the country from one another in a couple of months and maybe it was all for the best.
"How have you been?" Luke asked, causing me to turn my head in his direction.
"What?" I honestly didn't even think we were going to talk during the ride and the fact that that was the first thing he said surprised me.
"Well, I didn't exactly get the chance to ask you last night, so I thought I'd ask you now." Luke shrugged his shoulders.
"I've been stupendous," I replied sarcastically, turning my gaze away from him and out the window. "How about you?"
"I think it's pretty obvious how I've been." Luke scoffed. I didn't know how to reply to that, so I stayed quiet. I didn't even fully know the story from the night before, but I wasn't sure if I should ask. "Thanks for last night," Luke said, glancing over at me. "If it wasn't for you, I'd be dead right now, not that it would be a bad thing."
I sighed. "Luke, don't say that." I couldn't even stand the thought of Luke harming himself. My heart ached just thinking about something like that. He had people that loved him, even if he didn't believe it, and we would be devastated if he did something that he wouldn't be able to take back. Luke shrugged again. "Are you going to tell me what last night was all about?"
