I pushed Luke off of me, and with him being surprised by my actions, he dropped his arms from around my waist. I kept my promise, I slapped Luke hard across the face. I was beyond pissed, he didn't have the right to kiss me. He was a liar and a cheater, and his girlfriend was inside the house with us.
"Ow." Luke said nonchalantly, rubbing the side of his face. He acted as if it had actually hurt but he didn't want to admit it.
"Take me home. Now." I walked past Luke and out of the room, making my way down the long hallway. My eyes skimmed the livingroom, looking for any sign of my brother and Audrey. I didn't see them so I turned to walk into the kitchen to see if they were there, but I bumped into Luke. He was no longer rubbing his face but his cheek was red and held the outline of my hand. If I wasn't so angry, I would have laughed.
"I can't find Audrey and Kyle." I told him, my eyes looking anywhere but at him.
"Audrey lives next door, she'll be fine. I'll come back to get Kyle and drive him home. Let's just get you home."
"I'm not leaving Kyle." I crossed my arms over my chest. There was no way I was going to leave my brother at a party by himself when over half the people there were older than him.
"Shut up and go, Caroline." Luke turned me around by my shoulders and practically shoved me out the front door.
"Prick." I muttered as I climbed into Luke's car. I still had my arms crossed over my chest, not really wanting to be alone with Luke once again. Luke got into the drivers seat and sat there for a minute, a few sighs escaping his lips. I watched him quietly, wondering when he was going to start the engine.
"Caroline-"
"Just take me home." I shifted my gaze to the windshield and waited for Luke to start driving. He finally cranked the car and started to drive away from the party. I knew Luke had a beer but I also knew that it hadn't fazed him. He was used to drinking, one beer wouldn't bother him.
"Caroline," Luke said once again as we drove down the road, but just like last time, I didn't let him finish.
"You're fucked up, you know that? You are really fucked up, Luke Hemmings! You can't just kiss me like that and think it's okay. Just because you've done it before doesn't mean you can do it again. That was before, before I knew you had a girlfriend and before I knew you were a self-centered jerk. I'm not that kind of girl, Luke. Don't ever think I am." I was furious and I was letting it all out on him. He deserved it, he was the one who caused all this mess.
"I know." Luke nodded, not taking his eyes off the road.
"I know?" I scoffed, "That's all you have to say about this?"
"I know I'm messed up, Caroline. I really am. I'm a fuck up, that's what I am. I toy with other people's minds and get a thrill out of it. Who does that? Not a normal person, that's for sure. I know I've screwed everything for everyone. I don't deserve anything I have. We both know that. I don't deserve Audrey, I don't deserve my friends, and I sure as hell deserve you to have you sitting in my passenger's seat right now. I'm messed up, Caroline and I'm sorry, I truly am."
I stared at Luke for a few minutes, not knowing what to say to him. He had just said that he was sorry, and I honestly didn't know how to reply. I wanted to say it was okay, but it wasn't. As I had said before, Luke had to do a lot more than apologize to make things right.
"We're here." Luke put the car in park and sat still in his seat, not even looking at me. I looked out the window and saw that we were on fact in front of my house. I mumbled a 'thanks' as I climbed out of the car. "I'll be back in a bit with Kyle." Luke told me, still not looking at me. I nodded and turned around and began to walk away from the car.
"Caroline!" I turned around and bent down to look through the window of the car.
"Goodnight." Luke gave me a small smile and then put the car in drive, taking off down the road.
